tried to find a pack in Sainsburys the other week but no joy - why does the Government toy with us like that? ok maybe its all just Nestle's fault, they are an evil megacorp after all - in fact, i shouldnt even be eating their products at all right?

Because the world is an evil place. It's gives us wonderful wonderful things, and then takes them away again. (I can't think of any other examples right now, but I'm sure there are loads.)

Celeste (Celeste), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 19:07 (twenty-three years ago)

I got some from SOMERFIELD aka GATEWAY'S the other week. My first time actually. Most enjoyable.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 19:08 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't know about those Kit Kats, but I was pleased to find that the Canadian chocolate bar that was called the (politically incorrectly) Wig Wam is actually the British Cadbury Curly Wurly, which I can get here. They seem so much smaller now, though...

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 19:14 (twenty-three years ago)

I bought a Kit Kat the other day cause evil Pete had told us that Nestlé had sold off their Rowntree brand.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 19:16 (twenty-three years ago)

everything is smaller in the UK Bryan, except people

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 19:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Surely including people.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 19:36 (twenty-three years ago)

It's probably more likely that they haven't changed size, seeing as up until a few days ago it had ben about 23 years since I'd had one. I have to find my way to the UK soon. I WOULD DWARF YOU ALL! BWAH HA HA!

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 19:42 (twenty-three years ago)

I would have thought Americans and Canadians would make a bee-line for the Wagon Wheels.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 19:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Do Americans and Canadians even make bee-lines? You don't hear of people making bee-lines enough these days.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 19:52 (twenty-three years ago)

I buy Wagon Wheels for my wife all the time. I have been known to make a bee-line for'em when they have a good price on them at the Costco.

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 19:57 (twenty-three years ago)

B-but bees make squiggly lines!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 20:03 (twenty-three years ago)

That is a classic supermarket aisle bee-line for Wagon Wheels pattern. Ask anyone in marketing.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 20:05 (twenty-three years ago)

That's pretty much how it looks when I do it. Cripes, I'm making bee-lines wherever I go.

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 20:07 (twenty-three years ago)

thats all very well but what are we gonna do about the Orange Kitkat crisis?

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 20:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Weren't they limited edition?

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 20:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Kit Kat has its own website www.kitkat.co.uk or you can write to Nestle PO Box 203, York, YO91 1X4 or by telephone 0800 63785385.

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 11 February 2003 20:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Orange kit kats? I've never heard of them, but am now considering making a trip to the UK to bask in their splendor

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 00:53 (twenty-three years ago)

I had never heard of (much less had) an Orange Kit-Kat prior to reading this thread. Sounds wonderful. I happen to love Orange Aero bars, but whenever I'm able to find an Aero of any kind, it's inevitably the Chocolate or Mint version.

What I want to know is how come you can only get Dulche Le Leche M&Ms in Florida? Is it some strange Jeb Bush conspiracy?

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 01:56 (twenty-three years ago)

this is like the scampi nik-nak something or whatever.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 01:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I just bought a whole pile of groovy choccy bars for someone in the states, because apparently Canada has the motherlode. Weird, I know. Anyhow, apparently Coffee Crisp now comes in four flavours: French Vanilla, Triple Mocha, Orange and original. There's also Mint Aero, and possibly orange (which is apparently the NU BIG THING).

And what's all this berry cola crap anyhow? It tastes like windshield washer fluid.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 02:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Sean, I hate you hate you hate you! It's bad enough to pine for regular old Coffee Crisp all day without you teasing me with the delicious numminess of new flavors. I've been trying to swear off chocolate, it just leads to heartbreak and personal ruin.

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 02:40 (twenty-three years ago)

ha ha Orange and Mint Aero is so 1988

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 02:42 (twenty-three years ago)

You would be a candy snob -- "Ladies, I've got the nu-flava snicker bar that just came out!"

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 02:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry, Nicole...if it makes you feel any better I'll offer to send you some of these too. But I have a feeling that my offering will make it even worse, if you're trying to swear it off.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 02:48 (twenty-three years ago)

It was sweet of you to offer though.

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 02:53 (twenty-three years ago)

If you ever change your mind send me a mailing address. I'd be more than happy to corrupt you again, if that's what you want.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 03:01 (twenty-three years ago)

koogs, Wednesday, 12 February 2003 17:36 (twenty-three years ago)

I too had thought that the Orange Kit Kats were a limited edition. Despite N.'s sneers, they (Nestlé) have just introduced an Aero Chunky Peppermint bar.

Anyway, what do you think of Smarties bars? Which is better, the white or the milk chocolate one?

And wtf, Baked Bean Flavour Crisps?!?

Mooro (Mooro), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 17:57 (twenty-three years ago)

I've had dulce de leche m&ms here in LA...

Never even heard of these freaking things! Details?

Nicole, do not swear off chocolate. It is holy and pure.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 17:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Despite N.'s sneers, they (Nestlé) have just introduced an Aero Chunky Peppermint bar.

That's as may be. As I recall, Aero's in the early 80s (and before? don't know when they were introduced) were always either mint or orange, but they took the form of a milk chocolate covered aerated fondant filling. Then Cadbury's brought out the Wispa in about 1986 and Rowntree responded with the Aero 'bar' (solid choc). At first this was not flavoured, but I'm pretty sure that within a few years, a solid mint Aero bar was launched. Possibly an orange one too. What is the difference between this and the new 'Chunky Peppermint Bar' of which you speak? Is it just 'bigger'?

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 12 February 2003 19:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Hmm...

"In 2001, "M&M's"® Dulce de Leche~Caramel Chocolate Candies were introduced, gaining immediate public appeal with its irresistible taste combination and creamy texture. Their enormous popularity has made them a hit all over the world!"

then I find:

NEW YORK - M&Ms created for the Hispanic consumers is being taken off the market.

The M&Ms filled with dulce de leche caramel flavor debuted in August 2001 in five markets with large Hispanic populations. The new candy was marketed through Spanish-language ads, according to Advertising Age.

Masterfoods USA decided to take the candy off the shelves because it failed to become popular with the target market. A Masterfoods spokesperson said that its research found that a majority of consumers-including Hispanics-opted for the existing M&M candies and bought Dulce de Leche for special occasions.

Who knows?
