Didn't that article seem kind've racist to anyone else? I was trying to find some common thread to it. I assumed it would be about negative population growth, but it seemed like a whole lot more of the article was devoted to just saying "The Japanese are a horrible, horrible, morally and culturally bankrupt people. Their history disgusts me. None of their practices or beliefs can stem from anything but badness."
I get especially pet-peevy when people baselessly invoke western spiritual superiority. Like "Oh, their 'gods' are really weird, their concept of faith is weak; they're basically nihilists."
And don't give me any of that comparison-to-ancient-greeks-as-automatic-compliment bullshit, cause you know he just stuck that in there so he'd have some defense when people brought this stuff up. Same as mentioning that his colleague's statment was "borderline-racist". We're led to believe that if he can recognize that someone else's criticism of the Japanese is racist, then his own criticisms couldn't possibly be.

My dad was the same way Spencer; nothing incensed him more than the pernicious Japanese automobile industry!

my mum's mum wasn't vocally anti-nippon, but her husband was a PoW to them and it drastically shortened his life.

and my mum's dad died when she was fourteen etc. but I don't think she's even silently anti-nippon to much of a degree.

I am v. slightly in my head when I think about the above and some of the details of. but I do end up managing to think it is certain persons, as always.
