i think you would be seriously limiting yrself trying for music on linux, but i don't know for sure.

i don't cry for microsoft, but it's a mixed bag cuz MS is important to the local economy.

what is mitnick

please link to the linux music article

mitnick = kevin mitnick, a notorious hacker who got slung in jail by thee feds (they made an example/test case out of him)

The "Linux in Music" article is in thee current issue of S.O.S. so it's not online yet. Here are a coupla links I googled up:

http://www.ladspa.org/

(links to developers of linux plugins, roughly equiv to "VST", links to plugins & plugin hosts)

http://ardour.sourceforge.net/

(24-tk hard disk audio recorder 32bit, 48khz)

http://www.all-day-breakfast.com/rosegarden/

(cubase/logic/sonar linux equivalent-ish)

I get the impression that it's not quite there yet, but in, say 6 - 12 months? Who knows?

check out:

http://www.demudi.org

It's a Debian linux distribution focused on audio/video production. Most of the audio open-source projects floating around are still fairly incomplete compared to commercial stuff. Regardless, there is some useful and creative stuff.
