two weeks pass...
Ah, but he kept me sane on a ferry once

Excerpt from life story of a Richard Tunnicliffe on this matter: The journey back from Hamburg was a sore one, my being fully aware of the embarassment that I had caused my hosts, and of my inability to make it up to them. Still, I managed to console myself with a (now sadly mislaid) copy of the collected works of one Myles na gCopaleen which had been kindly lent to me by one of my embarassees. It made me larff like a drane. Conclusion of excerpt.

Sorry that your poor thread languished pinefox. I knew who you were talking about but I've only read part of At Swim-Two-Birds (parts: hilariously funny, parts: zzzzzzz) so I didn't have much to say.

two months pass...
Was looking for something to say on this thread a few weeks ago, because I'd just read "The Poor Mouth" and "The Hard Life" and enjoyed both enormously. Couldn't think of anything to say past that which wouldn't have been very dull, or very long or very involved (and most probably very obvious).

Anyway, I was talking to a fine Spanish fellow the other day who is currently translating (I think) "The Third Policeman" into Spanish. "Cripes," say I, "That must be tricky! How do you deal with all those jokes and plays on words and stuff?" "Oh," says he "I mostly just have to make up my own and hope they're funny."

Hoorah for translated literature!
