Artist Question

I've got a story in my head and I can't remember one crucial detail: whether it's true or not.

The story is there is/was a painter who went nowhere in his career for years. Then he had some kind of accident or a stroke or something that disabled his right (painting) hand. So he had to teach himself how to paint all over again with his left hand, and this new "style" hits and he's in the bigs.

So is this a real guy or just some half-remembered review of a play? Who/which?

my ex now paints with her left hand. The work is actually far more interesting/successful.

oh and sorry I don't know the answer to your question, but I'll ask her the next time we speak (should be about 2006 or so)

Are you talking about Chuck Close, large-scale photorealist who became quadroplegic large-scale photo-realist? His late work is astonishing

Close's Big Self Portrait is in the Walker here in Mpls, which is amazing. I don't think it's him.

how did chuck close end up in the wheel chair, i never found out why ?

Fuck, I never knew that about Chuck. When did that happen? I saw his show at the Chicago Museum of Modern Art or whatever it's called in the late 90s and don't remember anything about that. Man, I feel dumb.

two years pass...
Okay, this has nothing to do with this thread but i didn't think it was worth starting a new one.

I have seen this picture several times, and want to know what it is. I'm not very good at describing pictures so bear with me. It's a very simple, poster-like image of a plane flying overhead and it is dropping bombs, which when they fall onto the ground become crosses, ie graves. The bombs/crosses are I think white, the sky very blue and the ground just green grass.

I'm pretty sure this is famous, but I don't know what it is. Can anyone help?

Isn't there an animated scene in Pink Floyd - The Wall just like that?

Is Spencer speaking to his ex now?
