The Creeping Horror

The other day I was at Victoria Station when an ordinary-looking middle-aged man walked past with a large grey canvas bag. The bag was obviously heavy as he was pulling it behind him rather than lifting it. It was dragging across the station floor and as he passed I realised that GURGLING SOUNDS were coming from the bag. There was also a curious smell.

What Cthulhoid abomination did the bag contain? And if I had attempted to confirm what I'd heard would I be posting here today??

Tom (Groke), Friday, 7 March 2003 12:21 (twenty-three years ago)

did you call the cops?

jel -- (jel), Friday, 7 March 2003 12:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Was it leaving a trail of blood behind it?

Graham (graham), Friday, 7 March 2003 12:28 (twenty-three years ago)

There was no trail. And police are no use against eldritch forces. The bag was about the size of a medium-sized dog. The gurgling sounds didn't sound like an animal, more like the sounds you might hear naturally in a bog or marsh.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 7 March 2003 12:31 (twenty-three years ago)

While there is probably an innocuous explanation, there's no reason to assume offhand that there wasn't something horrible, vile, gruesome, illegal, and dying in the bag. Yech!

Skottie, Friday, 7 March 2003 12:32 (twenty-three years ago)

You're saying it was a medium-sized bag, then?

I say it was a tape recorder and that man has found a new twist on shouting things out of cars.

Graham (graham), Friday, 7 March 2003 12:33 (twenty-three years ago)

it wz a porta-portal to the squamous

Jacob's Ladder to thread

Fuzzy (Fuzzy), Friday, 7 March 2003 12:35 (twenty-three years ago)

graham is right, it was half a shop dummy and a tape recorder, and some gone-off vegetables.

My personal guide to bag sizing -

Small bag - handbag, paper bag
Medium bag - carrier bag, record bag, laptop bag
Large bag - about size of medium-sized dog
Above that you're talking a suitcase or something ridiculous that should be a rucksack.

I think it may have been more gibbous than squamous.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 7 March 2003 12:36 (twenty-three years ago)

It's TERRORISTS

Matt (Matt), Friday, 7 March 2003 12:36 (twenty-three years ago)

It might have been a bag of vacuum packed chutneys that were fermenting due to being placed over a heater on the train?

Lara (Lara), Friday, 7 March 2003 12:36 (twenty-three years ago)

I am not 100% sure that the smell and bag were related, Victoria Station being a smelly place at times thanks to the London Cheese Company, and tramps' piss.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 7 March 2003 12:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I think the new twist on shouting things out of cars is to shout things into cars. You dress strangely, have long hair, a visible non-majority sexual orientation, etc. and walk by Trans Ams, SUVs, and Rollers when they're stopped in traffic, and shout in the window. It's a fresh new party groove.

Skottie, Friday, 7 March 2003 12:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Now you've put me in mind of chutney and cheese. Num num.

Lara (Lara), Friday, 7 March 2003 12:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Skottie, I've been doing that since I was 14 so the idea is about as fresh as Tom's duffel to the netherworld.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 7 March 2003 12:55 (twenty-three years ago)

What's your current SAN?

Alan (Alan), Friday, 7 March 2003 12:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, fresh in the sense of very very stale, I mean.

SKottie, Friday, 7 March 2003 13:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tom -- are you sure it wasn't the contents of your fridge? The one in the back of the lounge that only you are allowed to open?

alext (alext), Friday, 7 March 2003 13:06 (twenty-three years ago)

I cleared it out a few days ago so you could be right and maybe the nameless cthonian monstrosities escaped the binbag to which I had confined them.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 7 March 2003 13:13 (twenty-three years ago)

"The bag was about the size of a medium-sized dog."

Clearly, the bag contained a medium-sized bog.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Friday, 7 March 2003 13:44 (twenty-three years ago)

i guess the bag contained a big pet python or some other big snake.
maybe it had an indigestion and the guy was going to the vet.

the hegemon, Friday, 7 March 2003 16:56 (twenty-three years ago)

was anything in the bag moving?

A Nairn (moretap), Friday, 7 March 2003 17:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Perhaps his bag was playing the Smithsonian 'Natural Bog Sounds' CD.

four months pass...
There is a man lying in the flowerbed outside my office window. He is barking at passers by using a traffic cone as a megaphone. The only clue as to his motive is the can of Spesh clutched in his left hand.
