anyone in london have capability of recording vinyl to mp3?

my records and record player are in one city and my pc in another

i'd like to record some of my faves to mp3 (and then cdr) and they dont seem to be available anywhere on p2p. so would anyone like me to come round their house with about 8-10 singles to record?

alternatively, does anyone have mp3s of

the mover presents frontal sickness - illuminated
equinox - pollux
grimble grumble - second mind
mike dunn - magic feet (any of the djax remixes)

and some others which i cant think of at the minute

It takes about 3 minutes over the track length to do it well. You need to set the level and trim the track after recording. I've not got a method of recording direct to mp3, I use Spark LE, so I have to use iTunes to convert it to Mp3.

I can do it if you give me the records next time I'm in London. I'll have to bring them back to sheffield though.

I can record vinyl onto CD, Gareth, if that helps? I'm sure lots of people can turn CD things into MP3s?

I would like a copy of the Glenn Campbell - Bobbie Gentry album. Would anyone be kind enough to conjure up that cd for me?

as long as i can get them onto cd that is the main thing

gareth if you want to lend me the vinyl i can record it for you and return it all sometime in the near future maybe? but maybe you don't trust my quality control, and i know you wouldn't dare venture as far as Ruislip (they'll cut ya) ;)

i shall bring them down this weekend, and then look at doing it when i get back from new york

gareth (gareth), Friday, 7 March 2003 14:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Gareth, I'd be happy to do it for you - off a Gyrodec onto hard disc, topped, tailed and limited in SoundForge, then audio CD and/or data CD full of whatever rate MP3s.

I'll be in work (nr Gt Portland St, Warren St, Regent's Park tubes) most of tomorrow, but that could enable us to meet in town. As for giving the stuff back to you, maybe a meeting on Sunday?

Email me if you're interested.

i cant! my vinyl is in bradford, i'm getting it this weekend, but then i'll be in in new york, i thought i'd ask early!

gareth (gareth), Friday, 7 March 2003 14:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry! Misunderstood "bring them down". Offer still stands, once you have the vinyl in your possession.

Can anyone explain how to perform this seemingly straightforward task on my Mac. I just want to transfer a minidisc or directly burn it to CD. Do I need expensive software? I don't care about doing it digitally - via the 'mic in' socket will do for my purposes.

(people who offered to help with the vinyl thing, do you have facility for a track on a tape also?)

gareth (gareth), Saturday, 8 March 2003 18:06 (twenty-three years ago)

I' haven't tried it, but this seems like the thing. Then just drag the files into iTunes.

Graham (graham), Saturday, 8 March 2003 18:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Ta Graham.

Though looking at that site this is native OSX so might be better?

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 8 March 2003 18:30 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought you were an OS9 puritan? Anyway, yes, native stuff is better as Classic can't access the audio in port anyway.

Graham (graham), Saturday, 8 March 2003 18:40 (twenty-three years ago)

You are confusing me with marko s9

ok i bought down a few records and 2 tapes, i'm away to nyc tomorrow but how about next week anyone?

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 13:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, if you don't mind it being an overnight sort of thing (possibly meet up in Central London daytime, return the goods to you the next day in a similar manner).

You could come down to Crystal Palace for a while-you-wait service, but that might not be too thrilling for you as I'd insist on transferring from HD to PC and dicking about while pushing imaginary specs up the bridge of my nose.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 16:44 (twenty-three years ago)

cheers! theres no rush at all michael, i'm not in a mega hurry or anything, i'm quite happy to wait...

cant do daytime weekday though (i work in thames valley), i'm in central london every evening though

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 17:03 (twenty-three years ago)
