Yup. Or they could just search by your email address.

As far as I know, Google doesn't link to the threads themselves, but it does get the pages with the lists of threads (i.e. New Answers, categorised question lists, etc). So your name won't come up if you merely post a message, but if you start a thread - as you have just done - your name will appear, as thread starters appear in brackets after the title.

This isn't right. ILX hides full email addresses from anyone who is not logged in (inc. googlebots).

maybe my idea to have the meta noindex flag on threads is a good idea

I'm such a liar. Sorry. I swear I thought I was right!

does it serve any purpose to have these threads in google? maybe norobots tags would make sense.....

john fail (cenotaph), Friday, 7 March 2003 19:41 (twenty-three years ago)

i think google throws up complete threads if you happen to search for something that's mentioned - well it used to.....

and wait...

i don't thinlk it does anymore.

Yes it does make sense to have these threads in Google. Many posters came to ILX that way.

Including our most famous example of a certain Killing Joke fan.

Since ilx moved from Greenspun.com to ilXor.com, Google has bothered with far less of our threads. Mostly it just indexes our New Answers, New Questions, and Categories pages. But yes, people searching your name will find it here, but not your email address.
