"Sometimes I find myself in HMV," he says, "humming away at the 80s songs, and I get all these kids under 25 coming up to me. And they're saying, 'Which planet do you come from?' And I say, 'Excuse me, this is the 80s songs!' And they turn around and say, 'Was there a generation of the 80s?' And I say, 'Excuse me, you young kids, you stick to your bands and we'll stick to our bands. We knew the 80s! You weren't born! You're weren't outside your mum's stomach!'"

I read that in the Guardian today too, and was thinking of posting it. Most unconvincing dialogue ever!

Oh JEEZUS for a moment there I thought you meant Michael Clark the dancer (who would not be *that* out of place in an 80s feature).

I did too. Which fresh Michael Clark is this?

My friends and I talk like that all the time, it's the lingo of all 24-year-olds and the youngstas. But of course you wouldn't know, Martin, you come from the ancient planet.

(I love when writers do this kind of exaggerated dialogue, it always makes me imagine living in a parallel universe where Raoul Duke is real and HST is the made-up version, Terry Gilliam is the Spielberg etc you know what I'm sayn)

It's Hanle's maiden name, befor Sarah made him her bitch.

Graham (graham), Saturday, 8 March 2003 18:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, the dancer is a neighbour and pal of mine. Lives around the corner in W*lfgang T!llmans' spare room.
