Why is the Internet so big, and yet... so SMALL?

Or is it just me?

This question is subject to interpretation.

I'm bored. And I'm sorry for being a misery sometimes. It's something in the water, I reckon.

No, it's not just you.

It's a small world, after all... It's a small world, after all...

Your friends typically have similar interests to you, and as a result, you'll see them in boards you too would frequent. Let's be realistic; not too many folks who visit rec.travel.africa or rec.sport.ufc come here on a regular basis, but folks who are familiar with a host of other newsgroups and websites (Rollingstone.com, alt.music groups, Buddyhead, Pitchfork, etc) are likely to at some point run across this site.

I didn't really mean that. I have almost no friends (one of the two *is* on here). I guess I meant... like, how can I spend so much time online and find so little to do and so few ways to relieve loneliness and boredom. Or something like that.

The Internet is huge, but sometimes it feels very, very small.

Actually, I did say the question was open to interpretation, though. There could be a philosophical slant in there.
