'la la cake'

My friend's mother told her those were her first ever spoken words. I am highly approving of her choice of noun and also her showmanship.

I don't have any first words attributed to me because I went from being very quiet and seeming to be 'a bit slow' to suddenly speaking in full sentences. It seems dreary in comparison. I probably practised behind the sofa. There would have been no flourishes, no la-las.

*whispering* 'May I please have the smallest slice, no icing?'

i prefer eating all of the icing off of a slice of cake and then requesting another piece than suffering through the boring bready portions

Estela! Cordelia! This thread is great already (I have nothing to add)

I have two little somethings to add.

1) Thank-you mookie, I love her too.

2) Cordelia, I hope you do not consider yourself to be a cake person, because you are not one. If I was a chocolate sponge I'd challenge you to a duel.

Actually, I prefer (fruit) pie to cake. I've heard a theory that says one can make one or the other well, but not both. Rhubarb or apricots, please! (Do you have these things in Oz?)

Nevertheless I still love her. And Cordelia: one needs the bready portions to remind you how good the icing is...

If I was a chocolate sponge I'd challenge you to a duel.

CLASSIC PHRASE!

my aunt penny's first recorded words:

"biscuit ever so pretty and nice — penny want one"

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 11:54 (twenty-three years ago)

My first recorded words (as in, literally recorded onto a cassette) go something like:

"I had a lickle nut tree nuffin would it bear... um... but a... um... NO *I* SING IT, *I* SING IT! SHHHHHHHH MUMMY! I KNOW IT! ...a golden nutmeg an' a silver pear."

When I was about five years old I wanted to be a Fireman (well, Firewoman really) and my parents have cine films of the training exercises my father used to dream up for me. He used to set light to great big piles of wood shavings in the garden, so I could run over and throw buckets of water on the flames, and there's another film of me trying to rescue my favourite doll from the top of a very tall apple tree where my dad had tied it. In the film I get stuck half way up and start to cry. My Dad was mental.
