this morning's paper says it's 'rare'.
(she has one nomination for best actress,
one for best supporting actress)
when has it happened before ?
for either gender i mean.

piscesboy, Tuesday, 11 March 2003 13:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sigourney Weaver did it before: 'Gorillas in the Mist' and... 'Working Girl'?

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 13:06 (twenty-three years ago)

This probably means she'll win neither.

David Beckhouse (David Beckhouse), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 15:01 (twenty-three years ago)

She has a great full frontal nude scene in that Altman movie. What the heck is the name of it?

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 15:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Short Cuts

Arthur (Arthur), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 15:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Brazillian?

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 15:12 (twenty-three years ago)

yes, short cuts.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 15:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Julianne Moore is the most overrated actress in Hollywood: discuss.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 15:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Mr Backhouse, Oscar logic dictates she will win the lesser award. Nicole Kidman may very well win unless she's caught looking put out when she doesn't win prelim awards eg. SAG.

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 15:39 (twenty-three years ago)

In general I agree wholeheartedly Dan. She doesn't even fall over in a funny way in Evolution.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 15:39 (twenty-three years ago)

You may be right Suzy, if both her nominations were in the same category she'd definitely lose. But she might get the lesser award as a consolation prize.

David Beckhouse (David Beckhouse), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 16:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I hated her in Hannibal.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 16:01 (twenty-three years ago)

That's what happened for Jessica Lange, I believe. Won for Tootsie, also nominated for Frances.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 16:01 (twenty-three years ago)

More double nominations:

The last time Oscar was so generous, it honored a pair of performers--a phenomenon that made the record books. In 1994, 35-year-old Holly Hunter (for The Piano and The Firm) and 34-year-old Emma Thompson (for The Remains of the Day and In the Name of the Father) each earned dual nods.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 16:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Generally she is overrated- but she is very funny in The Big Lebowski and as I remember believable in The End of the Affair.

Richard Jones (scarne), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 16:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Can't wait for the day Ethan Hawke gets a double nomination! Er.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 16:11 (twenty-three years ago)

It was bad enough that there were two of him in that episode of Alias.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 16:12 (twenty-three years ago)

HAHAHAHAHA! Sorry, I find that extremely ridiculous to even envision.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 16:13 (twenty-three years ago)

What about the day Ethan Hawke gets a double penetration, Ned?

Julianne Moore almost ruined "The Big Lebowski" for me. I just wanted someone to take a crowbar to her so that we could go back to John Goodman.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 16:17 (twenty-three years ago)

What about the day Ethan Hawke gets a double penetration, Ned?

He'll earn his honorary Oscar that day.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 16:17 (twenty-three years ago)

He'll get an Oscar and a Tony!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 16:19 (twenty-three years ago)

But Julianne Moore is HOTT!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 16:21 (twenty-three years ago)

He'll get an Oscar and a Tony!

Yeah, in that context, a Grammy would be weird.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 16:22 (twenty-three years ago)

(ha ha Grammy with a strap-on)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 16:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Mmm.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 16:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Aaron: Julianne Moore is "HOTT" in precisely the same way a hamster is "HOTT". I mean, she's not hideous or anything, but GIVE ME A BREAK she is not a drop-dead gorgeous woman.

I would rather gaze at Denise Richards' unibrow (and ONLY her unibrow) than Julianne Moore.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 16:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry... I'm a sucker for redheads. Plus, her in Boogie Nights = FOREVER HOTT!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 16:36 (twenty-three years ago)

I hated her in Hannibal.

she's the villain in Hannibal - you're supposed to hate her!! (even tho i didn't)

she was great in the great Safe

jones (actual), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 18:37 (twenty-three years ago)

EARLY-90S MAN (Enrique), Friday, 22 September 2006 10:46 (nineteen years ago)

eight years pass...

So she's actually terrific in Still Alice, finally toning down the red-rimmed hysterics.

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 14 February 2015 18:59 (eleven years ago)

yeah she's lost five times so this is The One i guess.

piscesx, Saturday, 14 February 2015 19:34 (eleven years ago)

didnt want to see her on the toilet in maps from the stars.

StillAdvance, Saturday, 14 February 2015 19:40 (eleven years ago)

she's good on the toilet and v funny in that film

touch of a love-starved cobra (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 17 February 2015 17:31 (eleven years ago)

"red-rimmed hysterics"?

I dunno. (amateurist), Wednesday, 18 February 2015 02:13 (eleven years ago)

Yeah, her eyes: those red rings around them. Too fuzzy a phrase.

guess that bundt gettin eaten (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 18 February 2015 02:15 (eleven years ago)

yeah unfortunately it calls up some more... unfortunate implications

I dunno. (amateurist), Wednesday, 18 February 2015 02:19 (eleven years ago)

Hammer Smashed Bagels, Wednesday, 18 February 2015 02:35 (eleven years ago)

not sure whether yr "this" refers to still alice or maps to the stars. haven't seen the former, but she's fantastic in maps. unfortunately, most everything else about the movie is not.

contenderizer, Wednesday, 18 February 2015 06:37 (eleven years ago)

Still Alice

Hammer Smashed Bagels, Wednesday, 18 February 2015 12:49 (eleven years ago)

two weeks pass...

Liked 'Still Alice'....Even as you're watching it, you're aware that it's a 'performance' film - that it's all about Julianne Moore' acting, which is very good. It seems a bit churlish to point out that the film itself is a little bit bland in places, and Alec Baldwin's performance could have done with a bit more energy.

the gabhal cabal (Bob Six), Sunday, 8 March 2015 01:33 (eleven years ago)

shes a really good actress, havent seen still alice but im just gonna pretend she won for maps to the stars

johnny crunch, Sunday, 8 March 2015 01:35 (eleven years ago)

Wait til you see Maps to the Stars, if you saw it you know the scene I mean
