hi,

does anyone know of any good programs in ethnomusicology? i am thinking about buckling down and changing careers; my undergrad degree is in information sciences but i hate computers now.

Acoustics is very interesting. there's a good professor in Turin if you want to do a Phd in acoustics. He looks like the classic mad scientist. Un kempt white hair and always in a white coat. A very good teacher.

DON'T DO IT!!!

Stick to loving music in your spare time and clock those IS dollahs!
College is for setting yourself up for making money, not 'finding' yourself or following your passion.
(I'm a sad sad man)
Seriously, though...

John, the Wesleyan program is geared toward non-Western musics, although Mark Slobin is an expert on Yiddish music. There is also a strong experimental/New Music component to the music program as a whole but I don't know how strongly it makes itself felt on the graduate ethnomusicology level.

It's a nice place to live, and there are interesting concerts every weekend.

The programme at York in Toronto seems good.
