After all, they do stir up discussions.

In Soviet Russia, the hot grits pour YOU down petrified Natalie Portman's pants (imagine a Beowulf Cluster of these).

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 21:50 (twenty-three years ago)

That didn't make sense.

U R all gay! Were you not breast-fed as a baby?

P.S. why do you hate America so much?

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 22:00 (twenty-three years ago)

trolling is dud.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 22:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Trolling's only classic if I'm doing it.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 22:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Trolling = classic.

Agree with Pashmina. Trolls are attention parasites. If it's possible to waste cyberspace that is what they do.

Fred Nerk, Wednesday, 12 March 2003 22:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I went trolling on Thanksgiving Day in Central Florida, nickalicious. I caught about 5 fish!

hstencil, Wednesday, 12 March 2003 22:09 (twenty-three years ago)

I think we manage to get plenty of good discussion going without the contribution of trolls. Dud, all the way.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 22:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Can you get the internet under bridges?

Bill E (bill_e), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 22:20 (twenty-three years ago)

If we twirl some of these trolls around in our hands does their hair stand up?

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 22:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Can you get the internet under bridges?

No but I have this crackberry thing so I can pick up my work email anywhere.

hstencil, Wednesday, 12 March 2003 22:25 (twenty-three years ago)

i think trolls can be funny. they're more free to go out on a limb than regular posters who want to maintain a decent relationship with their fellom contributors, so the opportunities to come out with some amusingly unhinged piece of humour are greater.

(i suppose I'm saying that trolls CAN be classic. They can also just be annoying and offensive)

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 22:29 (twenty-three years ago)

trolls can be annoying, but i try not to view them as real people so i don't get offended by them. if you can look at them on that level, then sometimes they are funny, but only for about five seconds.

di smith (lucylurex), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 22:31 (twenty-three years ago)

kM, you may be an unfamiliar name whose posts are funny or perceptive or thought provoking or otherwise valued. If so, you won't get called a troll in the first place. Only the shitstirrers and bushfire-starters, the 'annoying and offensive', fit the definition of 'troll'.

In other words, if I don't realise you're doing it, you ain't doing it.

Fred Nerk, Wednesday, 12 March 2003 22:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Troll-baiting is just as bad.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 23:02 (twenty-three years ago)

the sort of trolling done by this jonathan character amuses me. i am glad that such trolls come to ilx. undoubtedly he comes to wind people up, but it is also funny...

80's Metal: Classic Or Dud?

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Friday, 14 March 2003 13:53 (twenty-three years ago)

neither. just something that is thrown up at you by being in a public board.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 14 March 2003 16:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Julio we all know you LOVE it when people randomly and abusively troll!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 14 March 2003 16:39 (twenty-three years ago)

oh, OK ;-)
