This from my local zoo. I just don't see what the problem is. What else are you supposed to do with horse heads? I don't want to eat them.

hamish (hamish), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 23:06 (twenty-three years ago)

not a lot. what the hell's wrong with it anyway?

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 23:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Nothing, unless you're a horse!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 23:21 (twenty-three years ago)

/corny humor

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 23:21 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't know but it seems a lot of people around here are getting upset about it. Already the zoo tries to hide the horsehead feeding from the public which is kind of silly. Zoos are fake environments as it is without them hiding the tearing apart of horse heads from the kids.

hamish (hamish), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 23:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Where the hell do you get horses heads on a regular basis?

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 23:36 (twenty-three years ago)

From national parks. Horses are pests here.

hamish (hamish), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 23:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Where the hell do you get horses heads on a regular basis?

You gotta talk to Tom Hagen.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 23:55 (twenty-three years ago)

You sneak into a ranch at the dead of night and string piano wire all over the place. Then you make a really loud noise and catch them in a bucket as they fall.

Al Ewing (Al Ewing), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 23:59 (twenty-three years ago)

people need to act less like cowering wimps all the fucking time. Maybe they should just jack up the ticket prices and tell everybody 'oh it's because we now serve the lions teriyaki beef platters bcz you were all too namby-pamby to deal with anything resembling natural predation'

Millar (Millar), Thursday, 13 March 2003 00:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Feed them soy heads.

Al Ewing (Al Ewing), Thursday, 13 March 2003 00:05 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah! why don't they just deep fry the things and serve them to the lions with a side of f*cking ranch dressing! (feeling your anger Tom)

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 13 March 2003 00:07 (twenty-three years ago)

They should give out horse heads to the kids as they leave the zoo.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 13 March 2003 00:08 (twenty-three years ago)

kids love 'em!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 13 March 2003 00:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Has anybody looked at this from the horse's head's point of view. Which would you rather happened to you: being fed to lions or going to Hollywood and having Marlon Brando wake up and wheeze all over you?

Fred Nerk, Thursday, 13 March 2003 00:10 (twenty-three years ago)

snicker (to Spencer's post)

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 13 March 2003 00:11 (twenty-three years ago)

No, Hamish. That's from Fark. Please stop posting things off there where the unsuspecting can't see them in an attempt to appear cool

Lynskey (Lynskey), Thursday, 13 March 2003 00:18 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm going to join the titter-head gallery and snicker myself at Fred's cinematic reimagining.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 13 March 2003 00:20 (twenty-three years ago)

No, Hamish. That's from Fark. Please stop posting things off there where the unsuspecting can't see them in an attempt to appear cool

What? What's Fark?

hamish (hamish), Thursday, 13 March 2003 01:59 (twenty-three years ago)

why don't they feed the lions a more meaty part of the horse? a head can't be that filling, surely.

michael wells (michael w.), Thursday, 13 March 2003 02:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Ah, but a mind is a terrible thing to waste! (I hate myself now)

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 13 March 2003 02:21 (twenty-three years ago)

chilled monkey brains!

michael wells (michael w.), Thursday, 13 March 2003 02:23 (twenty-three years ago)

I want the Indiana Jones movies to come out on DVD now please.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 13 March 2003 03:24 (twenty-three years ago)

One tries.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 13 March 2003 03:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Haile Selassie to thread, certainly

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Thursday, 13 March 2003 04:16 (twenty-three years ago)

I can see how this might be distressing to some people to see. We're used to disconnecting the meat we see from what it was when alive, but if you use the head it's pretty unmistakeable. I can see I'd be disturbed if I were at the zoo and someone threw a load of dead kittens to the wolves, say. I'm not sure I'm saying that they should stop doing it during opening hours, but I can see that it would disturb some people.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 13 March 2003 12:43 (twenty-three years ago)

at authentic Chinese restaurants and dinners, when a whole steamed fish is brought out, my Dad looks around the table, sort of half-heartedly half-mumbles: "I guess nobody wants the eyes", and then proceeds to eat them. I don't know if he'd do the same with a horse.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 13 March 2003 16:55 (twenty-three years ago)

nine months pass...
revive!

Orbit (Orbit), Sunday, 4 January 2004 03:06 (twenty-two years ago)

ROTFL!@#E

The missing link in the first post now reads "head for home"!

I want the Indiana Jones movies to come out on DVD now please.

Hey, my wish came true! And I've got them now!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 4 January 2004 03:24 (twenty-two years ago)

it'd prolly give the lions better exorcise if they didn't detached the heads 1st.
that + live horses.
where does the rest of the body go anyways¿

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Sunday, 4 January 2004 04:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Eating heads could cause CJD? but that might have to be the same species and/or predators might not be affected by this.

isadora (isadora), Monday, 5 January 2004 02:39 (twenty-two years ago)

ƒrance.

jed_ (jed), Monday, 5 January 2004 02:43 (twenty-two years ago)

that's who.

jed_ (jed), Monday, 5 January 2004 02:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Prions are frighening little things; if humans or cats could catch CJD from eating beef brains, presumably a lion could catch something from an infected horse.

that + live horses.

Even better, living people who complain about feeding animal parts to lions. The big cats are predators; if we're going to keep them in zoos we should give them the opportunity to use their skills.

j.lu (j.lu), Monday, 5 January 2004 02:48 (twenty-two years ago)

They should throw the lions horse heads with kittens stapled to them. (Preferably anthropomorphized tapdancing kittens for maximam kiddie trauma.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 5 January 2004 02:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Just tell them the kittens are all Nermal. They'll be desensitized quickly.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 5 January 2004 02:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned, I'm trying to ENHANCE the trauma here!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 5 January 2004 02:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I am forestalling complaints. If you wish to pursue your evil, the kittens should be called Fluffykins.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 5 January 2004 03:00 (twenty-two years ago)

They should also be wearing lederhosen and little German hats.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 5 January 2004 03:08 (twenty-two years ago)

You want everyone to wear lederhosen and little German hats. And nothing else.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 5 January 2004 03:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Especially the chicks.

PHWOAR

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 5 January 2004 03:14 (twenty-two years ago)

as I recall they used to feed live chicks to the otters at Wellington Zoo. Also mice.

isadora (isadora), Monday, 5 January 2004 03:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I didn't know that mice ate chicks! Cute!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 5 January 2004 03:29 (twenty-two years ago)

A Horse is a Course, of Course of Course!!!!!

(I love this thread)

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 5 January 2004 10:01 (twenty-two years ago)

The wonderful Mr Thread (I'm so sorry).

Matt (Matt), Monday, 5 January 2004 10:41 (twenty-two years ago)

What's wrong with feeding burgers to swans?!

C. Morris (starry), Monday, 5 January 2004 16:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Seriously, this thread is kind of a let down for me. I was hoping that the question was going to be more practical, like the poster actually had a horse head, wtf? I don't give a shit about horses and lions in zoos. Horses are really useful animals though, lions eat their heads and dogs eat their bodies and then you make glue with their bones, after you work them half to death either making mad money on the race course or pulling, uh, plows full of beer or whatever the hell horses actually do.

Allyzay, Monday, 5 January 2004 16:10 (twenty-two years ago)

horses, after being all but replaced by the engine early in the 20th century, have embraced modern technology and are now some of the leading php/web developers in the world today.

dyson (dyson), Monday, 5 January 2004 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

The first word that came into my head was "Aja" after reading that post. I am a horrible person.

Allyzay, Monday, 5 January 2004 16:45 (twenty-two years ago)

no, no. it's my fault for such a retarded post.

dyson (dyson), Monday, 5 January 2004 16:51 (twenty-two years ago)

No, it's great. Every time I see her posting now, I'm going to imaging a big horse saying "What?" and it'll make me so much less testy with her. It's like Mr. Ed, for the future.

Allyzay, Monday, 5 January 2004 16:52 (twenty-two years ago)

also she's back in skewl now, so that should help things.
