French talking ladies unlucky in love, hiding this insecurity in compulsive desire to help the world, of such enormous humanity that the viewer falls in love with her.

However: POO!

I had such a hard time believing that Amelie could actually be unlucky in love.

Cmon I know bunches of you chums have a crush on Amélie so at least weigh in.

who's the other one

btw are french movies often crazy and morbid/randomviolent? not amelie, of course. i noticed a trend going with: fat girl, girls can't swim, (dreamlife of angels, with a friend like harry) (sort of)

with fat girl and girls can't swim the violence at the end seems to just pop out of nowhere

sorry off topic

One of the harshest on ron's point. it's sort of left up to the viewer to wonder how "random" it was (which seems like kind of a conservative move now that i think about it)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 15 March 2003 07:30 (twenty-three years ago)

sorry those pics are of Anna Karina from "Vivre Sa Vie"! It's really hard to believe it's her at the end of "Truth About Charlie".

Just for the record, Valentine is Swiss. Red is set in Switzerland.

C'est vrai...

Oh, wait. You said French talking ladies. My bad.

Girolamo Savonarola, Saturday, 15 March 2003 15:02 (twenty-three years ago)

two years pass...
Whoa! Tough, but I'd prefer Valentine. However, if it were Valentine vs. Dominique Karol (in Blanc), I'd have to submit to the latter despite how horrible she was to Karol Karol. The kittenish sexual energy emerging from Delpy's performance is just, gah...
