Help! I have a job interview on Monday that will involve a 40 minute admin test (it's for an office manager job for a charity...and I *really* want it!)

Now, I can use just about any software with my hands tied behind my back, but one of the ones they ask for is Access. I've barely used it (and I did say I only had a slight working knowledge in my application) but I really want to be able to do basic stuff if they ask me on the day, like setting up a new database.

I've had a look for some free introduction to Access type tutorials on the web but they're all really long-winded and confusing. I just want like a cheat sheet, or a straightforward "this is how you create yadda yadda" type info.

Anyone know of a good resource? Or should I stop being a cheapskate and just buy a book from Waterstones to speed read over the weekend?

If they asked for several programs for you to know then they might not test you on everything unless they told you specifically they wanted you to take an access test. Every admin test I've ever taken (In London and the US) were exactly the same thing. I did the MS Word test (I've always used Macs) which is just plain common sense and then the typing test. Oh, and maybe a alphanumerical test if you are data entrying. I'm surprised you can't find anything on the web. Too bad you can't find a computer with access on it to screw around with and learn it. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Do you have access to a computer with access because if you do an hours access of access will show you that it is a very accessible package. (Admin tests like this will at their hardest probably be set up small database for mail merge, then edit and mail merge an existing template - which at a push you could do either just within word or Excel).

I managed to database my entire record collection on it a couple of months ago having never used it before - it's easy peasy, so I wouldn't fear!

I'm just paranoid because it's the only software I'm not used to. I'll probably turn up and they'll just ask me to write a letter on Word and show that I know how to use Outlook and IE (duh!), but just in case...

I'm mucking about on it now at work (we don't use it here though...) - can anyone explain the primary key a bit more for me?

A lot of training stuff on the web either costs money, or is just written in sort of strange mork-speak that is a pain to wade through. A cheat sheet would be so handy! Like the ace ones at Webmonkey for html...

Ah! I just managed to create a basic database and used it to merge with a mailshot doc in Word - easy as pie. Mind you, it's only easy if you're familiar with mail merge in Word. Luckily I had to do a ton of it at one of my telly jobs because we issued contracts.

I've figured out the primary key thing, too.

Thanks everyone!
