thinking about smart, i have this feeling that the 15 yr old was bored of her perfect morg family, and so ran away- i am not convinced she was kidnapped, and she was so close to home, and could use the phone at will, and was left alone often, she could have escaped.

It'll be interesting to see what Elizabeth has to say about her experience. If I was a bored teenager who wanted to run away from an uptight religious background, I'd don't think I'd choose an unattractive religious cult leader as my magic man, mama. [Oh, Nick A. has just said the same thing!] Who knows, though?
