Wondering what you all think of the Not in Our Name TV spot, directed by Barbara Kopple, which MTV has refused to air.

You can find the ad at http://www.notinourname.net/NION_tv_ad/tv_ad.html.

Would this have been an effective ad should it have aired? Was MTV right or wrong not to have aired it? etc. An article about the ad here.

New answers. And please watch the commerical before you comment.

in terms of the commercial itself, the direction's pretty poor.

i wonder what the budget for the production was -- it could have been done a lot better.

Yeah I wish MTV would have showed it (just to have something out there) but it's really not a particularly compelling or though provoking ad. That said it might have gotten kids going to rallies or whatever just cuz it seems like the "hip" thing that everyone is doing.

I guess I was wondering what everyone thought of hitching a "No War" message--and one without any real arguments attached--onto this particular style of advertising.

They should have shot it in some other locales besides NY. It just makes it look like New Yorkers being New Yorkers. And those damn accents. Seems like it have more resonance w/ a broader youth population if the displayed a broader youth population espousing those views.
