So what's your vice?

Mine is es I guess, but sometimes it kicks in with everything. I have a sort of anything goes policy for Saturdays which basically means that once you're out and you've got fucked, you drink/take/snort anything which happens to be around. It's odd, I kinda fling out my rules, I reckon I'd eat sheep embryo or something if I thought it would give me an extra few hours dancing

Do other people have this self destruct thing? I have mates who have it with a particular drink, like whiskey or something. Is the attraction based on your knowing that you are mashing your brain to pieces?

I sometimes wonder are there dark hidden reasons for all these things, I still always rob that homer simpson "now I can get back to killing myself with beer" line, but sometimes I wonder if that's really what I/we/my friends are doing.

So when was the last time you hoovered the joint and collapsed in a heap of beer bottles.

I guess I don't have any really destructive vices. Shopping? I never like that feeling of not being in control, so I tend to shy away from excess.

I can be very very good for like three years, and then start drinking at 3:30 p.m on Friday and by Monday morning I'm unemployed, suddenly single, and the proud owner of a toploading washer/dryer.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 17 March 2003 16:38 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah every night seems to have a sharp beginning and a sharp end and no fucking middle. ie you know when you went out and you can remember being out but the eternal question is how the fuck did I end up here all over again, incapacitated and disorientated in my own living room. It always begins with a drink or whatever and then it's yeah yeah yeah pills and a haze of music and oops I only took one to keep awake and the other 3 were to stop that headache eh, RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! The Streets really locks this thing down, I'm just borrowing from Mikey S I guess.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 17 March 2003 16:41 (twenty-three years ago)

like that part in the derrick carter record where he screams IS THIS ALL THERE IS? except the fact that this really is all there is means it's not a massive soul searching question, it's just perfectly insignificant, this is all there is is this all there is? um yeah I guess so dude, what else is there?

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 17 March 2003 16:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Gambling. I mean, gambling's only any fun when you're playing for stakes you can't afford to lose. I've pissed away £180 in a day before, but then I've also won £200. It's swings and roundabouts. I've seen a guy put £500 on a horse that then falls at the first fence. It's... well, it's great. And the reason I never have any money.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 17 March 2003 16:47 (twenty-three years ago)

when i am drinking,i can occassionally get into the mindset where i want to keep drinking as much as possible, and will not think to stop drinking...
thankfully i am not agressive/dangerous when drunk so this hasn't really had any negative effect on me...
also thankfully, this way of thinking does not transfer to drugs-i always err on the side of caution when it comes to how much i take...

robin (robin), Monday, 17 March 2003 16:54 (twenty-three years ago)

also, ronan,if,as it seems, you're using the word "hoover" to describe taking drugs, where did you get it from, out of curiosity?
(i am secretly a slang etymology geek)

robin (robin), Monday, 17 March 2003 16:56 (twenty-three years ago)

I meant the actual "joint", like weed, as in when you get a joint and suck it like a hoover! I think it was in Irvine Welsh actually, my influences are few and obvious.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 17 March 2003 17:05 (twenty-three years ago)

hmm-i wasn't aware it was in irvine welsh
i was curious because my friends use it in a similar(if looser) way-the verb to hoover a joint/burger/few pints etc
and the expression comes from among others my friend fintan who is in dcu, hence my curiosity, its interesting how slang words/expressions can travel around dublin with such ease

robin (robin), Monday, 17 March 2003 17:11 (twenty-three years ago)

fintan? is this fintan detroit techno fan? short guy? if so he is a sound guy and I may even have met you and all!

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 17 March 2003 17:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, there was a guy doing the rounds called Mindless Drug Hoover a few years back; check your old Volume CD mags if you want trax.

-- Horace Mann

That's one beautiful sentence. It's like Kerouac.

Skottie, Monday, 17 March 2003 17:19 (twenty-three years ago)

lol yeah its funny that he would be known as a detroit techno fan first and foremost but that must be him...don't think ive met you though...
jesus, dublin is always smaller than you think, thats weird...

robin (robin), Monday, 17 March 2003 17:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Sometimes I tend to drink way too much and get completely beligerent. And I'm almost 30, married and trying to have a kid.

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 17 March 2003 17:30 (twenty-three years ago)

I think it's the way I was introduced to him actually, as in "fintan's into that stuff" when I talked about some record or other. He's a great laugh all the same, I went to Weatherall/Robertson with him. We must find a common factor DJ to go out to sometime.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 17 March 2003 17:35 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah he is well into detroit techno now,and would probably be chuffed to be described in those terms, its just that im always slagging him for d1 worshipping and his recently adopted detroit snob attitude...
its odd how most people in dublin are one or two degrees of separation away (i met killian and his girlfriend at the fap recently, and she seemed to know loads of people i hang around with as well)
fintan's always trying to get me to go to stuff in the tivoli, etc,so i'm sure i'll end up at something you're at sooner or later...

robin (robin), Monday, 17 March 2003 17:50 (twenty-three years ago)

True, you say it alot "oh Dublin is a small place" but it's true. are you going to go to laurent garnier?

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 17 March 2003 17:52 (twenty-three years ago)

they said on iedance that since he was double booked by the tivoli and the redbox that he has agreed to play in the tivoli a few months afterwards, and the tivoli have said that it will be cheaper than the redbox,so i'll probably just wait for the tivoli gig
oddly enough,i have never consciously heard anything by laurent garnier...

robin (robin), Monday, 17 March 2003 19:14 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah I heard the fiasco from my friend in influx, i didnt want to say cos i wasnt sure if they'd announced it yet and i was told to say nothing, I hate the red box anyway.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 17 March 2003 19:19 (twenty-three years ago)

oh good,as i was posting that message i was wondering had i imagined it or not,in that i remembered something about it on iedance ages ago,but hadn't heard anything since...

robin (robin), Monday, 17 March 2003 19:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Weed's not addictive, not at all, it's just that when I don't have any I want to FUCKING KILL EVERYONE NOW
