say your country launched a brutal assualt on a nation. say the action caused multiple terrorist attacks in your country. say that your government in an effort to identify terrorists in your country required it's citizens to get an ID chip implanted in them, and the penalty for refusal was a sentence to a work camp. what your choice be?

barrel of molasses, Monday, 17 March 2003 18:21 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll go no further than a driver's license or passport.

Stuart (Stuart), Monday, 17 March 2003 18:32 (twenty-three years ago)

what stuart said

Ed (dali), Monday, 17 March 2003 18:37 (twenty-three years ago)

What if the chip is inserted in the nutsack, requiring anyone who wanted to verify your identity to give you a good groping?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 17 March 2003 18:41 (twenty-three years ago)

That'd be fine Dan, assuming that all ID checkers are culled from Hawaiian Tropics contests.

oops (Oops), Monday, 17 March 2003 18:43 (twenty-three years ago)

haha nutsack = jake & dinos chapman art carrier bag!!

What Stuart said anyway. If a govt announced such a measure I would assume that a/they were incompetent at doing their job and
b/they were up to something really snarky. I'd emigrate.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 17 March 2003 18:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 17 March 2003 18:45 (twenty-three years ago)

But what if Janet Reno has to do the checks and the only instrument used to run the checks is embedded in her tongue. Janet Reno's tongue on my scrote is not appealing.

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 17 March 2003 18:46 (twenty-three years ago)

alredy have 'em... at work they are called CACs (common access cards)... got regular data imbeded in gold chip like date of birth, height, weight, address but also finger print data and photo that can be recalled from supercomputer... facial image on front... same, but smaller on back... barcoded and magnetic strip on back also but the really good stuff is stored in the chip... the card is the size of a regular credit card... for some reason, it is also assigned a PIN but haven't been to another other offices to see how this works... i just got the card a few weeks back... everyone in my line of work has 90 days to comply with the updated cards or get sanctioned... don't know what that means because people are routinely getting aways with all kinds of crap... like leaving food in the refrigerator too long... tardiness.. lunch breaks over 2 hours... missing files... office frat... you name it!

blue balloon, Monday, 17 March 2003 18:48 (twenty-three years ago)

with ID theft so huge, people can/will not carry cards, etc. the only way is with a chip. i mean a subversive could steal an honest citizen's ID right?

jamezlukaz, Monday, 17 March 2003 18:48 (twenty-three years ago)

haha CACS.

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 17 March 2003 18:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Thanks for that warning AFTER I clicked on the link, Pashman. :-P

(Urgh, the tongue-out emoticon has taken on new horror thanks to Chris.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 17 March 2003 18:50 (twenty-three years ago)

"excuse me could you slide your CAC through the hole again please."

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 17 March 2003 18:51 (twenty-three years ago)

I wouldn't wear it if it was yellow as yellow does nothing for me.

Lara (Lara), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 17:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Eisbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 23:12 (twenty-one years ago)

If it meant creating a world where my sons would never know fear, grow up and face the world, then yes, I would have my testicles ripped from my body.

My best Schweik imitation.

Michael White (Hereward), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 23:17 (twenty-one years ago)

People often suggest, as above, that it prevents ID theft, fraud etc. But people dont stop to think that all this chip ID has to be stored on a database somewhere... and whats to stop someone hacking it/using it for Bad Things/to control citizens (think "the handmaids tale"); what happens if suddenly the govt says your chip says you're a criminal when you're not?

The whole things scaryass.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 23:18 (twenty-one years ago)

So if my govt was cracking down that hard the LAST thing I'd want would be to have info about me in a centralised, govt run database, embedded into my body irremovably.

Hello, govt control of teh peoples.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 23:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Uh Tad whats with the cutup mashup reposting sheeit?

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 22 February 2005 23:22 (twenty-one years ago)

two years pass...

Once Amnerica becomes Canerixo, the first response is no longer an option. Why use Amneros when I have gold dabloons?

dean ge, Saturday, 30 June 2007 21:18 (eighteen years ago)

I would shout WOLVERINES and then blow stuff up.

milo z, Saturday, 30 June 2007 21:20 (eighteen years ago)

with ID theft so huge, people can/will not carry cards, etc. the only way is with a chip. i mean a subversive could steal an honest citizen's ID right?

Imagine how easy it would be to order things online with someone else's id chip. Just cut off their fingers or whatever and stick it in the scanner.

And if you think homeless people are fucked now, just wait till they don't have id chips, either.

Imagine you get targeted for harrassment like congressman George Hansen did. All they have to do is turn off your chip and your fucked. Instantly homeless.

There is no progress greater than shiny object collecting and trade.

dean ge, Saturday, 30 June 2007 21:27 (eighteen years ago)

I'd laugh at anybody who thought "Canerixo" was a viable or even possible name. Everybody knows it going to be "NorthAm", like in Rifts or Shadowrun(i think).

kingfish, Saturday, 30 June 2007 21:28 (eighteen years ago)

D4n P3rry OTM Re: nutsack

StanM, Saturday, 30 June 2007 21:30 (eighteen years ago)

It would be fantastic to see people buying a sack of chips with a sack of chip.

dean ge, Saturday, 30 June 2007 21:46 (eighteen years ago)

Or a bag of nuts with their bag of nuts.

dean ge, Saturday, 30 June 2007 21:48 (eighteen years ago)

man, that won't fly in the united states. i haven't been a believer in a really long time and i STILL immediately thought "mark of the beast" as soon as i read that. creepy. you'd think the combo of evangelicals + civil liberties enthusiasts on both the left and right would help kill it here.

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 02:44 (seven years ago)

Seemed like obvious clickbait to me.

A is for (Aimless), Wednesday, 14 November 2018 04:16 (seven years ago)

i visited a clickbait article and all i got was this lousy id chip implanted in my wrist

Karl Malone, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 04:46 (seven years ago)

mh, Wednesday, 14 November 2018 05:01 (seven years ago)

Microchipping you in the event that you up and disappear on us again. You had us worried sick.

a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 14 November 2018 11:27 (seven years ago)

There aren't enough middle fingers in the world with which to respond to an employer's demand that I be 'chipped.

My mother set great store by that microwave oven! (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 14 November 2018 13:02 (seven years ago)
