Mr. Diamond (diamond), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 02:46 (twenty-three years ago)

are we at all surprised?

Maria (Maria), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 02:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Nope.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 02:49 (twenty-three years ago)

and still this rainbow-order issue not addressed!!

ron (ron), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 03:04 (twenty-three years ago)

I was fully intending to dance this war away tonight and Soviet cancelled their show. This can't be good. Fuckers.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 03:08 (twenty-three years ago)

one year passes...
Wow, an orange alert just after the Democratic Convention. I'm sure there's a very good explanation. In celebration, I'm going to head down to Wall Street.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Sunday, 1 August 2004 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

so isn't this whole system supposed to be for law enforcement use only? why is marketed (for lack of a better term) as a public service?

oops (Oops), Sunday, 1 August 2004 17:09 (twenty-one years ago)

and in NYC, the threat level goes from orange to, uh, orange

gabbneb (gabbneb), Sunday, 1 August 2004 17:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Specific buildings mentioned. I suppose it's just a coincidence that the IMF and World Bank are targets of globalization protests. They're much more iconic than the White house or the Capitol or the CIA.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Sunday, 1 August 2004 17:17 (twenty-one years ago)

uh, and apparently the nation remains at yellow. so there's no change at all here, unless they're extending orange to Newark (not clear if DC has been at orange)

gabbneb (gabbneb), Sunday, 1 August 2004 17:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I wonder if this is actually legit, if there is instead of manipulaton and fearmongering, real information that might or might not result in attacks, and i wonder how effective ridge is at signal to noise

anthony, Sunday, 1 August 2004 17:39 (twenty-one years ago)

The Prudential building in Newark

!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 1 August 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

WTF, did prudential fuck over osama when he submitted an auto accident claim? were they churning whole-life policies to al-qaeda??

why on EARTH would someone from the middle east give a rat's ass -- or even KNOW -- about prudential? in a shitty city like newark?!?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 1 August 2004 17:42 (twenty-one years ago)

The building has a big Prudential logo on top

gabbneb (gabbneb), Sunday, 1 August 2004 18:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I have a feeling the terms "protestors" and "terrorists" are going to further blurred by our gov in the weeks to come.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 1 August 2004 18:06 (twenty-one years ago)

exactly

gabbneb (gabbneb), Sunday, 1 August 2004 18:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Bonus - a "terror-driven" market drop might get rid of pesky questions about why the economy isn't doing better

gabbneb (gabbneb), Sunday, 1 August 2004 18:08 (twenty-one years ago)

and just so we're clear - Ridge said that there is "no imminent threat"

gabbneb (gabbneb), Sunday, 1 August 2004 18:09 (twenty-one years ago)

"nothing is going to happen, but don't say we didn't warn you if it does, though we're not warning you of anything, just, ya know, stay limber."

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 1 August 2004 18:11 (twenty-one years ago)

The intel on this came from someone captured at the border before the DNC. Ridge waited at least a week for the announcement. In the meantime, he somehow managed to find time to talk about whether he was going to step down at the end of Bush's term.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Sunday, 1 August 2004 18:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, it's been almost a year - aren't we due for another blackout?

gabbneb (gabbneb), Sunday, 1 August 2004 21:10 (twenty-one years ago)

all i know is, that the commute during convention week is gonna piss off people to the point of harboring murderous thoughts ... i am NOT looking forward to all of those midtown direct commuters squeezing into the PATH.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 2 August 2004 03:16 (twenty-one years ago)

IS IT ORANGE OR YELLOW I MUST KNOW THE DEGREE OF OUR IMPENDING DOOM IMMEDIATELY!!!

Andrew (enneff), Monday, 2 August 2004 03:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Like I was saying (via Drudge)...

Much of the information that led authorities to raise the terror alert at several large financial institutions in the NY and D.C. areas was 3 or 4 years old... NYT Tuesday Page One Splash To Claim: Intelligence and law enforcement officials 'had not yet found concrete evidence that a terror plot or preparatory surveillance operations were still under way'... WASH POST Page One: Alerts Stemmed from Pre-9/11 Acts /// 'There is nothing right now that we're hearing that is new,' said one senior law enforcement official who was briefed on the alert. 'Why did we go to this level?... I still don't know that'... POST: 'Most of the information was compiled prior to the Sept. 11 attacks and that there are serious doubts about the age of other, undated files'...

gabbneb (gabbneb), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 01:54 (twenty-one years ago)

It's really annoying down here in DC, because unlike NYC we're not always at "orange," so the local news eats it up, and even disc jockeys spout it out every hour if not more. The water cooler is not fun this week...

Richard K (Richard K), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 02:43 (twenty-one years ago)

A coincedence, I am sure.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 03:51 (twenty-one years ago)

New York today was the most mellow I've seen it all summer. Even the cops were laid-back -- like they know that if Tom Ridge is talking about something, then for sure there's nothing gonna happen. The universal consensus among workmates, overheard commuters and some lady in a hospital bed with a Caribbean accent was that it's bullshit politics and please give us a fucking break, do we look like we were born yesterday?

There are times I really love New Yorkers.

spittle (spittle), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 04:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Only the most stupid of stupid people would think it was coincidental.

Oh wait, that includes Republican voters.
