It's definitely spring in Exeter (even though I'm in a basement office with no windows...). So what's the best thing about spring?

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 12:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Daffodils and getting home when it's still light.

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 12:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Winter's only nine months away.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 19 March 2003 13:14 (twenty-three years ago)

The warm excited feeling you get when you go out for lunch and it's mild, the sun's shining, there are bulbs out, buds on the trees, and being able to sit out in the park eating lunch seems that much closer.

Vicky (Vicky), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 13:19 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll second Archel's getting home in daylight. Also: Walks along the seafront / in the park / being outdoors generally.

robster (robster), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 13:22 (twenty-three years ago)

the way they bounce off when you press it and let go.

and feeling good walking through a park to work in the morning and it's not raining and miserable.

ken c, Wednesday, 19 March 2003 13:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Not having to wear jumpers.

Having short hair again.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 13:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Spring is sprung
The grass is ris
I wonder where the birdies is.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 13:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Is no-one going to say "The apposite sex in less clothing"? Then I will.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 13:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Girlies in sundresses.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 13:57 (twenty-three years ago)

girls in less dress!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 13:58 (twenty-three years ago)

There is nothing good about it. Here in Florida, it is a very brief period at the end of the October -> March pleasant weather season and the begining of a long, hot, humid hell. Stupid sub-tropical climate.

fletrejet, Wednesday, 19 March 2003 14:04 (twenty-three years ago)

The best thing about Spring is outdoor fun, of any description. I had lunch in Green Park for the first time this year. And my first outdoor pint a week and a half ago. Yay!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 14:08 (twenty-three years ago)

less dress!
And playoff hockey and the start of soccer season in Canada.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 14:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Longer days. I am already counting down madly to Daylight Savings Time kicking in.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 14:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Along the lines of Andrew's post, being able to wear mini skirts again without feeling like (too much of) a trashy whore. And my freckles start to reappear this time of year too.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 14:24 (twenty-three years ago)

outdoor pints, sitting on dry grass, punting, no coats, flowers that make the air smell real nice, knowing summer is next, winows open at night, not being around real stuffy radiator warmed rooms.

Only problem is that the flies start to come oooh

james (james), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 14:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Much more sunlight. Much less clothing. It suddenly feels so extremely nice to simply be outside.

Not to mention EVERYONE GET'S HORNY.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 14:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Central Park South smells like horse manure again.

hstencil, Wednesday, 19 March 2003 14:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Going on walks to see all the new blooms.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 14:29 (twenty-three years ago)

I can be outside for more than three minutes without getting frostbite. Hurrah!

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 14:29 (twenty-three years ago)

outdoor pints, sitting on dry grass, punting, no coats

None of these apply to Ireland in summer!

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 14:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Feeling alive! For real, yesterday I was like, "oh yeah THIS is how we're supposed to live!"

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 14:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Feeling alive!
Me too! It almost makes me feel like I have been hibernating all through winter. In the spring I seem to wake up all over.

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 14:32 (twenty-three years ago)

We'll all be blown to bits.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 19 March 2003 14:32 (twenty-three years ago)

How could I forget
PATIO SEASON!

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 14:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Marcello come to Devon for a holiday.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 14:37 (twenty-three years ago)

My birthday, and Easter.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 14:45 (twenty-three years ago)

too many ghosts in devon. and cornwall :-(

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 19 March 2003 14:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Dancing girls in sundresses working their asses to Wayne Wonders "No Letting Go". Yeah, I'm married.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 14:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Shit yeah, Noodles!

I just realized this'll be my first "Patio Season" since buying my house, which has both a deck AND a patio!!!

Coming soon:

Lexington, KY, Nick's Back Yard FAP/FACO (Cook Out)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:04 (twenty-three years ago)

ha ha, saying "FACO" out loud RAWQZ!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:04 (twenty-three years ago)

FACO to FALCO!

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Nick, you need to come to Louisville for hstencil's gigantic Derby FAP!

hstencil, Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:43 (twenty-three years ago)

there is nothing good about spring. It's like the manic phase of a manic depressive. It's sly and not clever.

rainy (rainy), Thursday, 20 March 2003 03:46 (twenty-three years ago)

One more vote for longer days and wearing fewer clothes.

j.lu (j.lu), Thursday, 20 March 2003 03:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Daffodils!
But sadly it means that soon Pike Place Market will soon be overrun by tourists on the weekends....

lyra (lyra), Thursday, 20 March 2003 06:25 (twenty-three years ago)

It's springtime for HitlerBush and Germanythe U.S....

hstencil, Thursday, 20 March 2003 06:32 (twenty-three years ago)

spring? spring?

its summer already you know. don't let it pass you by;)

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 20 March 2003 12:05 (twenty-three years ago)

there will be no summer this year.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 20 March 2003 12:07 (twenty-three years ago)

I admit the daffodils look slightly less lovely today... :/

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 20 March 2003 12:17 (twenty-three years ago)

two years pass...
I'm starting to wake up again. :-D

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 31 March 2005 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Little lambs. Mind you, there have been little bewildered lambs being born here since february. Poor mites are probably dead now.

Spring is akin to winter here. Temperatures vary between 15 and 0. Bring on summer.

Rumpsy Pumpsy (Rumpie), Thursday, 31 March 2005 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Pasty white Chicago girls in spagehtti string tops.

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Thursday, 31 March 2005 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

flipflops
breezes
long city walks
not wearing a coat to a bar, then not carrying around coat within bar
city no longer empty and gray
it turns out those suicidal feelings actually were prompted by seasonal affective disorder

carly, Thursday, 31 March 2005 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

not wearing a coat to a bar

Yep, carrying around a coat anywhere is a big pain in the ass, especially when you're shopping, but also when you're in a crowded bar.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 31 March 2005 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Spring! Yay! Warmth and bright mornings and more. Daylight Savings will be the icing on the cake here.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 31 March 2005 15:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Flipflops are so horrible, they make a stupid noise and they make even women with great legs look dumpy and flatfooted. Anyone who works for a major fashion mag, can you please please please make them totally OUT this season? Please?

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 31 March 2005 15:45 (twenty-one years ago)

the worst thing about spring is how now that the weather's finally nice again, i'm too sick from allergies and sinus pain to enjoy it!

jody von oy (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 31 March 2005 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

C'est la saison des tétons!

M. White (Miguelito), Thursday, 31 March 2005 15:49 (twenty-one years ago)

The time change.

I kid, of course. To be honest, I'm not sure what the best thing about spring is. It only lasts for two weeks here after having a very mild winter...and then it's 90+ degrees (32+ Celsius) everyday up until October. In consequence, everything's terrible about it...it's a harbinger of doom where the streets literally turn green because the local 365-days-a-year allergy festival is at its peak. Yum.

Open windows and low utility bills. We've got very high ceilings, and heating this bitch in the winter is kind of expensive. One month, the gas bill was higher than my truck payment.

Curious George Finds the Ether Bottle (Rock Hardy), Thursday, 31 March 2005 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

People are easygoing in the Spring. Also, concerts-a-plenty.

dave225 (Dave225), Thursday, 31 March 2005 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost

Seconded. Our gas bill becomes nothing in the summer, like, $10 a month. Electric bill dips a great deal as well, I guess just because the days are longer. Everything is cheaper. Food is even cheaper.

Best thing about spring: opening the windows, and having your home no longer smell like three months of cooking and smoking.

SPRING CLEANING, TEH HORN, BEING BAREFOOT OUTSIDE

This thread is Northern Hemispherist!

What we want? Sex with T.V. stars! What you want? Ian Riese-Moraine! (Eastern Ma, Thursday, 31 March 2005 17:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Lowest gas bill (July): 10.79
Highest gas bill (Jan.): 328.43

Obv., that's not all usage, it's jacking up the cost-per-unit in the winter. Death to profiteering utilities.

Curious George Finds the Ether Bottle (Rock Hardy), Thursday, 31 March 2005 17:37 (twenty-one years ago)

328! Holy crap!

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Thursday, 31 March 2005 17:43 (twenty-one years ago)

After that one came, and after I finished shitting a brick, I tried an experiment — told the family to leave the gas heaters off and turned the central heat thermostat up to 73 during the day. The next gas bill was $98 and the electric bill didn't go up a penny.

Curious George Finds the Ether Bottle (Rock Hardy), Thursday, 31 March 2005 17:49 (twenty-one years ago)

What is TEH HORN, nickalicious?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 31 March 2005 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)

teh horn, n. - 1. a state of horniness, 2. something Vikings blow when they are about to pillage your shit

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 31 March 2005 17:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe "TEH HORN" is related to the "less dress?"

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 31 March 2005 17:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Cactus blooms, ocotillo blooms...I never knew they could be so pretty.

Abbott, Monday, 5 May 2008 17:50 (eighteen years ago)

If I wasn't so mad at everyone right now I would say that Spring is great because it sneaks up on you and all of a sudden there's color everywhere. I live in New England, so every season is very...apt.
"Nature's first green is gold;
her hardest hue to hold."
Thank you Robert Frost.

Don't get me started about the Lilacs. Just don't.
(Also i am not mad at anyone here.)
