I just found out my friend Christian got a job translating American porn into Swedish for $35/hour. He works from home, wakes up at noon, watches some porn, spends 10 minutes translating it, and bills the company 6 hours!

Which of your friends' jobs are you most jealous/envious of?

a japanese friend of a friend, who used to be a shop girl, is now getting paid about $120 an hour to be a 'cultural interpreter' on that cruise film. she even got to assess him in a kimono.

i know two guys who help make computer games for a (good) living. another friend works for Vodafone, gets a free phone with all the cool features and spends most of the day chatting to his girlfriend online while casually fixing bugs in the company's infrastructure network.

H (Heruy), Thursday, 20 March 2003 01:23 (twenty-three years ago)

I know two guys who write or design console/PC games for a living - one even got to move to Canada to do what he does. Another who spent some time testing games, which meant playing gameboy and PS2 all day. Though he said it is not anywhere near as cool as it sounds (try playing the same level of a Snow White game for 6 year olds on a gamneboy advance over and over).

As I sit still at work at 9:37, I'm increasingly believing the best job is drug dealer.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 20 March 2003 02:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Haha CLASSIFIED hahaha, really, though, it sounds like a lot of fun.

Millar (Millar), Thursday, 20 March 2003 02:49 (twenty-three years ago)

I was just about to launch into why career as drug dealer was bad but will let it go as being a BAD JOB mainly coz' you have to deal with ppl who want drugs (usually not cool)

H (Heruy), Thursday, 20 March 2003 03:57 (twenty-three years ago)

All the drug addicts I know are great people, pretty girls who go to lots of parties and their wealthy boyfriends. Also, I live in a Brett Easton Ellis novel.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 20 March 2003 04:39 (twenty-three years ago)

i hope no psycho ever lets a rat eat its way up your cunt (if you have one) - that's the only thing i can remember from brett easton ellis.

Clare (not entirely unhappy), Thursday, 20 March 2003 05:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Lesson: DON'T date Bret Easton Ellis!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 20 March 2003 05:45 (twenty-three years ago)

he certainly literalises 'getting eaten out'

Clare (not entirely unhappy), Thursday, 20 March 2003 05:48 (twenty-three years ago)

My friend's job involves getting tied to a chair for George Wendt's pleasure.

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 20 March 2003 07:27 (twenty-three years ago)

For $200 I'll marry you to the human of your choice, or totallybaptize you. I'm totally not kidding.

TheReverendNickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 20 March 2003 07:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I havce a friend who is a nuclear physicist for CERN. Not particularly glamorous, but still it was cool when a colleague said "You'd have to be a nuclear physicist to understand that!" and I replied "I have a friend who's a nuclear physicist".

However, I have no friends who are rocket scientists or brain surgeons.

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 20 March 2003 09:15 (twenty-three years ago)

But I have a friend who's working on a cure for cancer.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 20 March 2003 11:37 (twenty-three years ago)

i have a friend who worked for the rape crisis centre in leeds, and while it might not seem the most exciting and glamouros and well paid of jobs (ha, it wasnt), to do something that rewarding, to make that much difference to peoples lives, is something else

then the authorities withdrew the funding and she had to help oversee its wind-down.

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 20 March 2003 11:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Lots of friends of mine work for a company that makes physics engines for companies that make computer games, and one of my best friends there is the person basically in charge of the marketing of the products. So she get to be flown to computer games companies and shown the games that will be released next year, and if any of the games fall flat, they still get their money!
