The next Conservative Party election rally - which celebrities will take the stage?

Inspired by the Madonna thread on ILM - Ms Ciccone/Mrs Ritchie was considered as the star turn for the next Tory election campaign, but since she's moved back to LA this is unlikely to happen.

One presumes the usual suspects - Monkhouse, Davidson, Tarby - will be in attendance, but who else? My outside guess would be Ben Elton - he's been moving steadily rightwards these past few years and I fully expect him to do a Hitchens and cross over to the right.

And what about all those participants in the recent anti-Euro cinema advert? A very clever choice of celebs - Rik Mayall, Vic Reeves, Harry Enfield, Johnny Vaughan, Jools Holland - people whose activities and demographic following would suggest that they're "on our side" but who have never actually come out and said so. Are they all guilty Tories on the quiet?

David Dickinson, obviously.

i think enfield has pretty much said he was a tory. ben elton is one of the most reprehensible people in britain.

i dont think any of those kind of people would come out at a tory rally though, even if they were tory sympathizers, precisely because their schtick is that they are 'on our side'.

also, with labour so incredibly far to the right they dont need to be tories. wonder what would happend if labour ever shifted leftwards at all

outside bet....noel gallagher (secret tory if ever there was one!)

gareth (gareth), Friday, 21 March 2003 11:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Nah, I think Enfield has expressed a (disillusioned) support for Labour in the past, if anything, he'll carp from the sidelines... Jools seems the most likely out of Marcello's lot.

Harry Enfield might not go down so well with the right-wingers he lampooned as Tory Boy. I've had my suspicions about Vic Reeves for a while - more so since the Euro ads.

I think an invisible guy carrying a very small Japanese flag will take the stage at the next Conservative conference.

Report in today's Standard about yesterday's 60th birthday bash for principal Tory donor Lord "Richard" Ashcroft - a Tory Party fundraising do in all but name, with Cameron, Hague, Duncan Smith and Howard all in attendance - which featured "entertainment" from Tom Jones, Lulu (no surprise about either of those), Denise van Outen (coming out of a birthday cake), Jasper Carrott and the bloke out of Dead Ringers.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:17 (twenty years ago)

No surprise about Denise van Outen either. But I'm a bit surprised by Jasper Carrott.

Danaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:20 (twenty years ago)

He was best mates at school with top Tory drummer Bev Bevan so maybe it's not so surprising.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:21 (twenty years ago)

What about this story about him and Condoleeza Rice - that's an April Fool surely?

Danaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:22 (twenty years ago)

I heard something about Condoleeza Rice visiting Tony Blackburn recently.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:24 (twenty years ago)

no keane? no blunt?

Real Goths Don't Wear Black (Enrique), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:25 (twenty years ago)

"visiting" - never heard it described as that before, ehhhhh? *wink wink*

Danaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:25 (twenty years ago)

Charlie out of Busted/Fightstar?

Hello Sunshine (Hello Sunshine), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:26 (twenty years ago)

Chantelle Houghton

Danaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:27 (twenty years ago)

And Abi Titmuss, obviously

Danaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:28 (twenty years ago)

Coldplay did announce at the Brits that they'd be "back in two years" - maybe they've been tipped the wink on the next election date.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:34 (twenty years ago)

i thought they said they were never coming back :0(

Real Goths Don't Wear Black (Enrique), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 11:37 (twenty years ago)

Lying Tories innit.
