what is with the constant smile playing across Aaron Brown's face?

Is this all funny somehow? Or is he smiling inwardly at the absurd futility of existence?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 21 March 2003 21:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Electric vibrating egg.

Benjamin, Friday, 21 March 2003 21:15 (twenty-three years ago)

HA!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 21 March 2003 21:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Bingo.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 21 March 2003 21:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Ari Fleischer does this too. I wonder if they've been instructed to stay upbeat.

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 21 March 2003 21:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Either that or they're sharing the EVE.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 21 March 2003 21:18 (twenty-three years ago)

That has always bugged the living shit out of me about Brown. He's such a smarmy fuck.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Friday, 21 March 2003 21:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Maybe he's trying to keep up with O'Reilly.

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 21 March 2003 21:19 (twenty-three years ago)

CNN needs to lose Brown. He's whiny, rude, and a very poor ringmaster. I don't think that Foxnews is picking up viewers because they're more conservative, but because they can't bear to watch him.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 21 March 2003 21:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Aaron Brown + Connie Chung = LOW RATINGS

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 21 March 2003 21:30 (twenty-three years ago)

He's like Bob Costas or something, always fumbling around trying for some weighty, dramatic pronouncement about whatever's happening.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Friday, 21 March 2003 21:32 (twenty-three years ago)

"fumbling" being the most important word. (also, see dan rather's "ruminations" during wednesday's broadcast)

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 21 March 2003 21:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Fleischer smiles like he's thinking "ha these poor fules". Brokaw smiles sardonically, Jennings smiles with a kind of dogged humility, Rather doesn't smile of course. Brown's smile is more elusive, more confused. I think he's trying to work a "kindly" angle but it comes off as more "duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh"

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 21 March 2003 21:35 (twenty-three years ago)

I love Peter Jennings. He and I will make lanky, Canadian babies.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 21 March 2003 21:36 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm so glad "LOW RATINGS" was the sum you came up with for that little math problem...

g--ff c-nn-n (gcannon), Friday, 21 March 2003 21:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Where did he come from, anyhow? I don't recall seeing him prior to Sept 2001. Did he just sneak onto the set, and does his awkward smirk conceal a fear that he will be found out?

Benjamin, Friday, 21 March 2003 21:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Ooohhhhhh, someone else loves Peter Jennings too. I remembered seeing him at some inaugaral thing where he was in a tuxedo and totally pissed on champagne. ROWR.

Carey (Carey), Friday, 21 March 2003 21:39 (twenty-three years ago)

I like that guy that's always yelling on MSNBC. He's like blonde and wears glasses. Also the guy with dreads. They're the greatest newscasters ever known to history. Them and this one guy, he was on the tv news in Arizona, and every time it rained, which was like twice, he ran down the street screaming "It's raining! It's raining!" and that would be the news story to start the day. He was fucking brill.

Peter Jennings is a high school drop out. Like me! We are one, and I understand him in a much greater sense than all of you.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 21 March 2003 21:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Ohhh Peter Jennings catfight! He's mine!

Carey (Carey), Friday, 21 March 2003 21:42 (twenty-three years ago)

no! no! only I shall win Peter Jennings tender attentions!

(xpost!!)

g--ff c-nn-n (gcannon), Friday, 21 March 2003 21:42 (twenty-three years ago)

While Aaron Brown's weird smile fills me with an uncanny dread, Paula Zahn's hair causes a much more particular kind of anxiety: viz., when is one of those pointy, lacquered arcs of hair going to WEDGE INTO HER EYEBALL?

Benjamin, Friday, 21 March 2003 21:43 (twenty-three years ago)

http://www.bookmagazine.com/issue24/images/TOCjennings.gif

Saucy!

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 21 March 2003 21:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Jennings lust should go here.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 21 March 2003 21:45 (twenty-three years ago)

"I don't usually meet with my interns here in this utility closet, but..."

g--ff c-nn-n (gcannon), Friday, 21 March 2003 21:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Aaron Brown used to be an ABC reporter. He started working at CNN on 9/10, if I'm not mistaken.

Can we talk about Larry King too?

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 21 March 2003 21:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I was thinking that today, Benjamin! I was actually concerned for a moment when I saw her, like "yikes, someone do someth- oh, that's just her hair." I always assumed Brown was part of the "new wave" of hirees at CNN that came in like the week before 9/11 and got put through their paces something fierce (I see that Yancey confirms). I actually liked him then, he seemed thoughtful amidst the storm.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 21 March 2003 21:49 (twenty-three years ago)

I used to like him too, but now he's all cocky.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 21 March 2003 21:51 (twenty-three years ago)

I liked him then too. THEN HE TURNED ON US!!!!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 21 March 2003 21:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, I will admit that actually after 9/11 I didn't mind Brown so much. He did seem somehow calming to me. Hell I give all of 'em credit for their job that day.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Friday, 21 March 2003 22:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Larry King is brilliant. He just like busts out, "Sometimes, I like to think that the best food is kebabs, especially from Milos!" and then the next sentence is like talking about Barbra Streisand. And he made out with Marlon Brando!

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 21 March 2003 22:10 (twenty-three years ago)

WAIT! WAIT! WAIT! Stop the muthafucking presses! Everyone here is hatin' on the true man of journalism!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 21 March 2003 22:16 (twenty-three years ago)

(can i just say that this & the peter jennings thread have nearly redeemed an awful day?)

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 21 March 2003 22:17 (twenty-three years ago)

No way, Yanc3y, Russert sucks! He's a softball-lobber in "serious journalist" clothing.

hstencil, Friday, 21 March 2003 22:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Russert RULZ!

(seriously though, he's the closest that we've got to a true newsman these days. and if you regularly watch meet the press it's obvious that he does go after people, and i especially like that he seems to be completely apolitical himself)

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 21 March 2003 22:19 (twenty-three years ago)

MR. RUSSERT: How’s your health?
VICE PRES. CHENEY: Good. No complaints.
MR. RUSSERT: How’s your diet?
VICE PRES. CHENEY: My diet is good. I’m watched over very carefully by my wife and by doctors and I’ve got...
MR. RUSSERT: Do you prefer french fries or freedom fries?
VICE PRES. CHENEY: I don’t eat them whatever they’re called. I used to love them, but, no, I stay away from french fries. They’re not on my diet.

hstencil, Friday, 21 March 2003 22:22 (twenty-three years ago)

That Russert post makes me want to have Yancey's children.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 21 March 2003 22:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, so aside the question about Cheney's health, that's fluff. So what? He's setting the stage for a SMACKDOWN!!!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 21 March 2003 22:24 (twenty-three years ago)

The Elvis to all your Justins, the Madonna to all your Britneys, the Shakespeare to all your Tom Clancys:

Fuck yeah, dude.

g--ff c-nn-n (gcannon), Friday, 21 March 2003 22:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Did he won that Jeopardy? I need to know these things.

Carey (Carey), Friday, 21 March 2003 22:31 (twenty-three years ago)

that's like the most hardcore fucking picture ever. "EVENTS POWER ASSETS WOLF" = my new slogan.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 21 March 2003 22:33 (twenty-three years ago)

I bet he says that to himself in the mirror every morning.

g--ff c-nn-n (gcannon), Friday, 21 March 2003 22:44 (twenty-three years ago)

"Good morning, Mr Blitzer, how--"
"EVENTS POWER ASSETS WOLF"
"Yes I see, um, thank you."

g--ff c-nn-n (gcannon), Friday, 21 March 2003 22:46 (twenty-three years ago)

This is officially the BEST THREAD EVAH!!!

(if someone can find Vanna White as Marilyn Monroe I'll kiss them)

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 21 March 2003 22:52 (twenty-three years ago)

I can't even BREATHE because of that Elvis Trebek thing.

Just out of curiousity, is this the most American thread in the history of ILx?

Yancey, this is the best I could do.

Who is that woman??? Is that Vanna?

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 21 March 2003 23:01 (twenty-three years ago)

*checking off "see Vanna White nearly-naked" off of Things To Do Before I Die list*

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 21 March 2003 23:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Supposedly it is Vanna and I think it's way better than her dressed as Marilyn. Shes being ravaged by Kiss!

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 21 March 2003 23:05 (twenty-three years ago)

She's uber hot! Can you find a pick of Paul Stanely and Pat Sajak? Or Jon Bon Jovi and Ray Combs?

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 21 March 2003 23:07 (twenty-three years ago)

How 'bout Nikki Sixx fondling a nekkid Star Jones?

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 21 March 2003 23:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Just now an anguished father who lost his only son in combat yesterday condemned George W. Bush to the camera, and Brown felt it necessary to essentially "apologize" for him right after ("We can understand how hurt he must be..." etc.).

Amateurist (amateurist), Saturday, 22 March 2003 02:01 (twenty-three years ago)

He probably sent one of his "people" to fuck their shit up.
