PFA Team of the season

I joined the PFA when I was a young player at West Brom. I was never going to make it as a player(loved music and drinking too much!) but kept up the premiums for the PFA because of the benefits (health insurance, training opportunities, now I do some work for Football In The Community). So this means every year, I get sent my PFA player of the year forms. You have to choose the best players of the season. So the deadline for sending them back was Friday-heres my choice for team of the season, for what its worth.
1. Cudicini (Chelsea)
2. Hibbert (Everton)
3. Bridge (sothampton)
4. Vieira (Arsenal)
5. Hyppia (Liverpool)
6. Gallas (Chelsea)
7. Parker (Charlton)
8. Dyer (Newcastle)
9. Henry (Arsenal)
10. van Nistleroy (Man Utd)
11. Zola (Chelsea)
Player of the Year: Zola, by a country mile
young player of the year: Jenas (Newcastle)
I'd be interested in all your teams (Martin can choose Bristol Rovers if he wants!)

if shearer does not figure in the tam of the season there will be riots, and there will be no legal recourse to prevent them. rooney'll win young player but his actual achievemnts aren't great - leeds' milner has scored as many as him (two), though rooney does have the edge in skill. alright, i'd go for:
1-cudicini
2-
3-woodgate (excellent for leeds as long as he was there, and same for newcastle)
4-sol campbell
5-
6-
7-scholes
8-viera
9-wayne bridge
10-shearer
11-henry
can't be bothered thinking about other positions
and rooney scored while i've been writing this! and a quick check on football365's stats page proves me entirely wrong in estimation of his goals anywya. 5 in all comps.
and moyles for manager of the year.

Haha, thanks Paul. I think it would be hard to realistically claim that any Bristol Rovers players belong in this team. I'd vote for Henry as player of the year, I think. I agree about Jenas - the hype for Rooney is excessive given what he has achieved so far (before today he hadn't even played 90 minutes in the last three months or so!), but he'll win.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 23 March 2003 18:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Hang on, also: I don't remember you volunteering when there was talk of a football match against Sinister or whoever it was! We have an ex-pro here, and having played against an ex-pro once, I know how big a difference that is (he'd only been on Bristol Rovers' books briefly too).

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 23 March 2003 18:19 (twenty-three years ago)

The hype makes Rooney a shoe-in for young player, but I can't believe nobody in the press has mentioned John O'Shea. He's had an extraordinary season. I thought Wesley Brown was a great prospect when he broke through, but O'Shea is even better. For a young defender to pose a greater attacking threat down the left than Ryan Giggs is remarkable.

zemko (bob), Monday, 24 March 2003 15:37 (twenty-three years ago)

rooney will win young player of the year, no question. i'll say...

1. Brad friedel
2. Steve Finnan
3. Wayne Bridge
4. Patrick Vieira
5. Sami Hyppia
6. William Gallas
7. Frank Lampard
8. Jermain Jenas
9. Henry
10. Alan Shearer
11. Zola

Biased as fuck, I know, but I have to counterbalance the lack of other ILX United supporters:

1. Barthez
2. G Neville
3. O'Shea
4. Roy Keane (C)
5. W Brown
6. Silvestre
7. Beckham
8. Scholes
9. Van Nistelrooy
10. Thierry Henry
11. Veron

James Ball (James Ball), Monday, 24 March 2003 16:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Neville???? oh dear.

I haven't got the time to work it out, but I will on the tube on my way home, but young player *should* be Jenas or O'shea

chris (chris), Monday, 24 March 2003 16:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Neville???? oh dear

OK, I posted that team to be provocative, but I stuck with Neville (who has had a decent season barring a couple of games) after answering the question "Is there anyone who would be better in that position for United?". (Yes, I realise that's not the same question PFA members are voting on.)

James Ball (James Ball), Monday, 24 March 2003 16:28 (twenty-three years ago)

1. Brad friedel

ooh! an American!

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 24 March 2003 17:57 (twenty-three years ago)

It's a good thing for Friedel that the ballots were due before Blackburn got the shit kicked out of them this weekend. Friedel has had some spectacular games, but Cudicini was probably a bit more consistent week-in and week-out.

Benjamin, Monday, 24 March 2003 18:10 (twenty-three years ago)

good call on o shea,he's been great all season, rooney has obviously been impressive but he hasn't played enough to prove he can be consistently good
(although im sure he will be)

robin (robin), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 02:34 (twenty-three years ago)

u fool! wes brown would be a better rightback for a start

zemko (bob), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 20:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Cudicini is streets ahead of Friedel. I'm biased, but right on this.

I disagree, but anyway he's playing at centre back and can't be in two places at once.
