What are some good unbiased (as possible) news sources?

I'm sure this question may have been asked before, but, um, well, it deems asking again, no?

I want to know what's going on. The combination of Al Jazeera & American sources (CrapNN, Fox"News"EntertainmentFoodProduct, etc.) aren't really helping much. I also get BBC World News on the tele thanks to PBS, which is pretty good it seems. What other sources would you all recommend?

I've just bookmarked a wide range of news sources. Arab News, Yahoo, BBC, Pravda, The Age, Fox, Guardian, CNN, Reuters . . .

I wouldn't want to trust just one news source, especially in a war.

I am currently digging the Financial Times.

The BBC Radio World Service is the best and most intelligent I've come across.

You have to pay, but www.stratfor.org is a good source of extremely objective uber-analytical political discussion.

Wow, I missed that thread.

I really like Reuters and Pravda pretty well too, as well as the India Times. I've always been under the assumption that the key to proper understanding of world events = as many different sources as possible.

I agree wholeheartedly based on when I was following them after 9/11 before they essentially limited everything to paying consumers, alas.

What was Frank Zappa's favorite again? Was it the Sentinal?

Pravda has to be one of the most overtly biased sources out there. Nearly every story aims to paint America (its people as well as its govt) in a bad light. It is not a good thing when you can tell what the political opinions of a reporter are from a non-op ed piece.
Here's one example:
Basra: 77 civilians butchered

oops (Oops), Monday, 24 March 2003 19:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well yeah, Pravda is pretty noticeably biased, but I really get a kick out of the juxtaposition of Pravda vs. Fox News.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 24 March 2003 19:01 (twenty-three years ago)

No doubt. I'm more wary of Fox, since they claim to be 'fair and balanced' and attempt to hide/deny their bias. (Pravda admit that they are pro-Russia)

i just use ILX for my news.....

The Agonist is a pretty good blog that's compiling recent tactical data. Far as I can tell, the guy hasn't slept yet (and he's the only one that mentioned the whole thumbs up thing)

Pravda was the only place that reported Saddam having a UFO and giant scorpion guards.

I was rather comforted by Peter Jennings' coverage of the war on ABC. I wasn't picking up any overt conservative bias, although he was a little harsh on the Sarah Lawrence College professor (name escapes me) who spoke against the war the night that bombing began. I've been watching ABC and CNN, and wholeheartedly avoiding FOX News, where They Report (the skewed data and laughably subjective points of view) and You Decide (to either vomit in disgust or soak it up like an eager little Republican puppy.) If only I had regular access to the BBC, but alas, I am a sad liberal American.
