so it was tawdry, and smoke filled, and the most naked example of capitalism, boring, almost offensive in places, easily mockable, a freak show.

do men really enjoy this ?

Some do, most don't. I went last summer for the first time in about 12 years for a bachelor party (not my idea). The women watching the dancers seemed to be more into it than the men. I was extremely bored, which was exasperated by being the DD. The most offensive bit was the coin throwing: instead of putting bills in the g-strings (no one or two dollars bills here in Canada), loonies ($1 coins) and twonies ($2 coins) are tossed, and in some cases whipped quite hard at the dancers. The game was to get the coins to stick to the dancer's body. After the set was over, each dancer would walk around with a magnet on a chain to pick up the coins off the stage. I hope I never have to go back.

I always find it amusing that Canadians use an old slang term for policemen when they are talking about strippers.

or where you at some joint where dirty cops get 'em off?

Bryan, what's a DD?

The first time I went to one, the Penthouse Club in Vanvouver, 1996, I honestly cried. I was very drunk and had just had my heart broken by what I thought was the love of my life.
It was very very sad.

DD = Designated driver; AKA the stupid fucker who agreed to drive so that everyone else could drink.

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 15:45 (twenty-three years ago)

...agreed to drive and not drink...

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 15:46 (twenty-three years ago)

being sober at a strip club sounds like a truly hellish experience.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 15:48 (twenty-three years ago)

It's hellish, but not as expensive as being drunk at a strip club.

It was pretty surreal, anyway, especially when our little group won a draw for a semi-private dance. Being sober and sitting 4 feet away from a stranger while she shinks her wallies for you was pretty upsetting. I talked to her for a minute after and she seemed really out of it. We left soon after. The groom looked sullen.

God that sounds grim. I thought this thread wd be about the police as well.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 16:06 (twenty-three years ago)

if you all find it that icky, one sure fire way to avoid strippers is to not go to strip clubs.

I've had fun at strip clubs, but i like smoke, sleaze, and naked capitalism. yes, it can also depressing. so can supermarkets.

I have never heard of a woman being pelted with coins. That's bizarre.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 16:11 (twenty-three years ago)

shinks her wallies???
I am afeared to ask.

Simeon (Simeon), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 16:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Shinks her wallies = shakes her tits. My demented friend Chris came up with that one (at least I've never heard it anywhere else).
