The page has a nice diagram of the Bush-Clearchannel relationship:

badgerminor (badgerminor), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 19:26 (twenty-three years ago)

is there anything we can do to stop clearchannel though?

j fail (cenotaph), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 19:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Stop listening to ClearChannel radio stations.
Stop attending concerts at ClearChannel-owned venues (d'oh! Television on Saturday was at Irving Plaza, oh well)
Write your representatives about repeal of the 1996 Telecommunications Act
Write the FCC with complaints

hstencil, Tuesday, 25 March 2003 19:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Also, notify companies who advertise on ClearChannel stations that you won't be buying their products.

hstencil, Tuesday, 25 March 2003 19:31 (twenty-three years ago)

goddamn liberul media.

fletrejet, Tuesday, 25 March 2003 19:31 (twenty-three years ago)

that is the most confusing (and evil) diagram ever!!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 19:35 (twenty-three years ago)

My boss runs ads on clearchannel. :-(

I got this really annoying forward this morning from an agent in another office. She sent it to everyone in the company. It was about them liberal musicians and actors who don't fight for our country. It was SO STUPID!!! Fortunately, my bf convinced me that instead of sending a flamer back I should just send a "This is a work email address. Please don't send any more forwards. Thank you."

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 19:36 (twenty-three years ago)

I like uggabugga's diagrams. They are quite diagram-happy.

The Iraq War tree, a few months old:

fletrejet, Tuesday, 25 March 2003 19:37 (twenty-three years ago)

i take it back

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 20:08 (twenty-three years ago)

that is the most confusing (and evil) diagram ever!!

Amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 20:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Has anyone worked this banner out yet?

http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20030323/capt.1048453535.war_us_iraq_rallies_vaws104.jpg

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 22:13 (twenty-three years ago)

The thing that irks me about that stupid banner is that the portly gent brandishing it probably THINKS it's oh-so-clever, when in fact it's completely convoluted, irrelevant and sad.

These are the same folks who use soundbytes like "Axis of Weasels" rampantly and refer to CNN as the "Clinton News Network." Save me.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 22:17 (twenty-three years ago)

But still, what does he mean it to say? I genuinely don't get it at all.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 22:19 (twenty-three years ago)

should i boycott work?

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 22:23 (twenty-three years ago)

I think the sign meant to say "Eric is French for Hollywood." It's about what a sell-out that sappy Eric Rohmer is.

Marcel Post (Marcel Post), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 22:27 (twenty-three years ago)

It made sense to me immediately. "Hollywood" = limousine liberals and hotbed of irresponsible daydreamers.

France "approves of Iraq"
liberals "approve of Hollywood"

We could power America on this man's venality and ignorance alone!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 22:55 (twenty-three years ago)

I think it's interesting that Krugman picked on Clear Channel for this but didn't mention that all newspapers owned by Murdoch had op-ed pieces supporting the war. (Granted, that's non-US owned, so US can't do as much about it as the clear channel situation.) This supports my conspiracy theory that print media are all looking out for themselves and aren't policing themselves the way they should. Not that CC doesn't deserve it, it's just that they distract from other worthy dragons.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 23:07 (twenty-three years ago)

CC isn't US-owned either, teeny.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 23:08 (twenty-three years ago)

But Tracer under that logic, America (well, OK - English speakers) approves of liberal Hollywood. Given that he presumably doesn't, is he disassociating himself from America (or English speakers)?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 23:27 (twenty-three years ago)

You've got it right, N. Just replace "America" with "liberals."

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 23:31 (twenty-three years ago)

And it kind of implies Iraq is a hotbed of liberalism!

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 23:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Well sure! Cuz all liberals are really just Saddam-lovers at heart.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 23:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes but is it an unrequited crush?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 23:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Yanc3y I might need a new job.

hstencil, Tuesday, 25 March 2003 23:52 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought CC was headquartered in Texas! What am I missing?

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 01:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Texas has been annexed by Sealand.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 01:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Seeland? Are they going to turn Texas into a giant plunderphonic wasteland? Dear God let it be true.

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 01:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Can I boycott my job on your behalf, Yancey? My workplace is French for Missouri.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 04:55 (twenty-three years ago)

does Missouri = misery?

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 10:38 (twenty-three years ago)

You want a job at CC, stencil? I'll hook you up!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 15:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Do you want my job?

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 15:02 (twenty-three years ago)

apparently clearchannel has been calling up dj's at the local college radio station here and trying to entice them into dead-end careers in commercial radio adminstration.

my contempt for clearchannel now surpasses my contempt for verizon.

j fail (cenotaph), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 15:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Yanc3y, can you get me a job, too?

rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 15:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Yanc3y, I'm afraid I'm gonna lose my current one, so yeah any help would be appreciated!

Ally I've worked in a real estate-related job before, and I don't think I could go back to something like that ever again.

hstencil, Wednesday, 26 March 2003 15:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Come on, you can. You'd love it here. Who wouldn't? The positivity here is overwhelming. And everyone loves to work 14 hr days. Honestly. Please take my job? They won't even notice the switch. Come on.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 15:46 (twenty-three years ago)

But but but Ally, can hstencil wear your glasses well?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 15:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll scour the CC employment pages tomorrow (I'm at home today) and if anything looks promising I'll email you, Rosemary and stencil...

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 16:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Thanks, Yanc3y.
