is it bad form to post a link to your band's first single on ILx?

it's finally done! and while it will likely get a further remix and a mastering job, this is pretty close.

... but ...

ILx is refreshingly free of self-promotion. if everyone on here posted a link to their bands' MP3s, there'd be no space for anything else.

discuss.

Hell, I'd say go for it. Ain't no shame in pimpin' the game.

Francis Watlington, Monday, 16 June 2003 04:50 (twenty-two years ago)

pimp away. i know i'll be pimping like a daddy when my next record is done.

maybe if this became a designated thread for self-promotion...

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 16 June 2003 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

that would be cool, bring on the band linkage! so, here's the link to the .mp3 ... i put it on ILM as well (sorry to double-up) but i wanted to maybepossibly catch people who only read one or the other.

fields of salmon (fieldsofsalmon), Monday, 16 June 2003 15:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Yea sure, its just me + a computer program I wrote.

Jon Williams (ex machina), Monday, 16 June 2003 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Do you guys have a website or anything?

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 16 June 2003 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

It's cool, but it'd be really cool if the song was called "the fifth wednesday of the super moth" (which is how I misread it)

i really like that - it reminds me of something, but i can't place what.

sand.y, Monday, 16 June 2003 17:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I really like the sound of it. Having seen the photo of your band I have no doubt who does what (haha SPOT THE DRUMMER etc). Be sure and come to DC when you tour. Being an incorrigible ass however I kept expecting verses during the guitar-free parts and skipped over the intro. I like your voice, you should sing more!

Millar (Millar), Monday, 16 June 2003 22:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I really liked that FOS, the guitar sounded quite urgent and enquiring. Ha Jon Lynskey put that as the startup noise on the houses computer a while back, I was wondering where it was from.

six months pass...

OK. The new Petrified Forest album is done. It's called "It was the richest, most valuable slice of life..." The Petrified Forest is me and Sarah McLusky. The album has 11 songs, one of which is a Brian Eno cover. It's distorted ramshackle pop music. It's kinda low-fi, since I'm still learning how to use our laptop to mix stuff down, and it's in mono, since I couldn't figure out how to do stereo and I was in a hurry. But it rocks!!! If you want a free copy, email me or Sarah.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 17:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow, whoever designed that website is fucking pretentious.

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 17:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Blatantly self-promotional bump.

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 20:20 (twenty-two years ago)

It's in mono?! I'm so there!

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 20:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Woo hoo! We have a winner!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 20:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I want one!

s1utsky (slutsky), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 20:34 (twenty-two years ago)

What, is there only one copy of the album?

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 20:34 (twenty-two years ago)

No. I was kidding. Email us your addresses!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 20:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd like to hear this, but I'll wait to get one in person!

Also, my band's EP is still available. And, uh, they're going fast! :-)

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 16 December 2003 20:41 (twenty-two years ago)

CDs off to s1utsky, Piuma, and Teppy McTepperston this morning - keep an eye out for them.
