Would anyone admit to seeing Bruce Almighty and liking it?

I would. The Hulk was sold out, so we saw Bruce Almighty. Since I'm sure the Hulk would've sucked, I am really glad we saw Bruce Almighty. It had me in hysterics and I really don't like Jim Carrey.

the first 1/3 or so was terrific. isn't that always the way with a wacky premise? but midway thru act 3 it's so bogged down in tying up logistical loose ends and delivering and redelivering its 'moral' that all fun is long forgotten.

It seemed like the 1/3 you're talking about felt more like 2/3 to me. The tying up shit seemed quick for some reason. You're probably right, though, I'm not good with time unless I can see my watch. Anyway, I couldn't believe how hard I was laughing 2 or 3 times at a movie I felt sure would be only mildly amusing.

i want to hear Jennifer Aniston's orgasm. but Jim Carrey is totally not funny and the trailer has so many cringey bits i'm worried what actually happens in the film. i can imagine that once he's God Bruce just spends his time doing stuff to make him feel evermore empowered whilst perhaps making cash fly out of bank machines causing chaos on the streets and magically fixing all thats wrong in american society (assuming that no thought is given to the rest of the world and the numerous 'heavy' problems dogging it....but then it wouldn't be a light-hearted comedy of course).

i'd rather see the Hulk. i must be the only person who completely dismisses this 'oh but the CGI just looks terrible' line as actually quite irrelevant. plus i dunno if its bad as such, its just quite surreal - from what i've seen of the film it does actually have a hazy saturated cartoon-like look of sorts, which if intentional could actually be a smart tribute of sorts to the original comic book look and feel.

well i think Ang Lee and the gang had a predicament there in that how could they revive an old concept/story and make it interesting particulary with so many other superhero remakes having already come out in recent years. i enjoyed X Men 2 despite the realisation that halfway thru the film i had no real feeling that an actual plot was in place, in a way it seemed that nothing was really happening. the only significant developments seemed to be confined to the main characters - but i think this worked and it made a nice change in the way. the background plot of the norm/mutant eradication only really took hold in the last third and did well to cover the ground in as unpredictable a way as possible. Hulk COULD do the same by going quite deep into exploring whats going on in Bruce Banner's mind in how to cope with the fact you are now changed forever and have become a monster etc. and I'd probably find that more interesting than the old 'save world from evil maniac with big bomb' routine.

Plus Pirates Of The Caribbean has Johnny Depp in it and he = dreamy... Plus a pretty good actor too.

I try not to trust trailers - they tend to take the best bits of a film or put it together in a way as to make it seem like a different film. Take JUT MARRIED - it seemed like a film filled with one farcical moment after another, but when in reality it didn't.

But I love trailers. I'd love to make a film told entirely through a 1½ hour trailer. It would just ocnsist of edit after edit in a trailer style but you'd not notice it after watching it for a while. Hopefully...

yeh trailers can be very deceptive - i remember the one for 'Go' shows the two lap dancers at the same time Breckin Meyer's (or whatever his name is) character is asking Desmond Askew's character 'you had sex with two women?!' which he did tho it was not with the two lap dancers...strange tactics.

sarcasm? i just think its funny that trailers seems to be getting evermore cynical and calculated in what they present to the viewer and how in order to get people to want to see the film. just an honest representation that doesnt give away too much is all thats needed.

i saw the trailer for the forthcoming American Pie: The Wedding (OH DEAR GOD NO!) recently and it fixated on the one scene that must be one of the top three major setpieces of the film, possibly giving away more than it needed to i dont know.

Bruce Almighty was better than i expected but i am easily pleased - the tomb raider 2 and POTC adverts had me drooling salsa dip in anticipation of ACKSHUN movies this summer. Jim Carrey - i like any of his sillier movies. Best quote from the young un - 'isn't the guy playing god spotty'

I don't understand the point of Jim Carrey being in a high concept comedy. Surely Jom Carrey should be in a low concept - plenty of room for Jim Carrey to do Jim Carrey schtick comedy. After all parading him as a normal bloke around the concept loses the reason why he is funny. He is a disruptive influence (cf Ace Ventura, The Mask & Dumb and Dumber).

but Carrey was brilliant in The Truman Show and Man In The Moon and they were high concept! i think this boils down to the fact that even tho Carrey is loved best for his 'zany goofball' persona, i think i find that other side to him less tiresome. same thing happens when Robin Williams does a straight role or a less zany character (as his last few films where he hammed up the kerazy guy role were all panned but the likes of 'good will hunting' and 'one hour photo' seemed to get more favourable reviews and praise of his performance in those)

But they weren't out and out comedies (drama first and foremost). This is an out and out comedy and seems to be as dire as Liar Liar (again the concept is the reason for his crazy schtick and hence will be exorcised out of him by the end - leaving us with the spectre of laughter taken away, a moral that being funny is not good = a downer).

While I have no interest in seeing the movie, I have to say that the interview with Shadyac wasn't that preachy in comparison to many things I've read. Heck if anything it's both a relief and a pleasure to see him note about how there's such a limiting mindset among many Christians that would write off or ignore movies (and by implication many other artistic works) precisely because they are not obviously about religion or the religious life. The reverse of course can be equally true about how those of us who are non- or areligious can too readily write off those works that are obviously religious etc.

hey people i just saw the movie and i have to say i was pleasantly surprised... i went to the screening thinking and hoping it was gonna be pirates of the caribbean based on information i was told and was kinda disappointed when it was evan almighty but the screening was awesome. Steve Carell is sooo funny but the movie belongs to wanda sykes aide to to steve carells congressman character. her one liners and commentaries make the movie and along with some extremely comic building antics it made the movie a great comic movie. Now its a little predictable but i strongly advise you to go see it.

I know I just saw it too. It was funny, I liked it better than bruce almighty. wanda sykes was really funny in this and so was steve carrell. Morgan Freeman was also awesome as God.

I saw this recently and it was really, extremely bad. It's completely saturated in cynicism and you almost feel sorry for whatever mainstream Christian audience laps this type of dreck up. You more or less have to hate every character in this movie.

I absolutely refuse to see any other movie featuring Jim Carrey from this moment on, including the ones I used to enjoy (Dumb & Dumber, Ace Ventura). I have spent an hour and a half in the Hell that is his all-consuming ego.
