I just love the Weekly World News. I love it so much.

Actually, one of the only things that cheered me up during the whole WTC tragedy was the fact that whilst all of the papers had the same headline, the Daily Sport was there with: 'Britney Spears' Boob Pops Out On Stage!'

Paul Strange, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Our fave all-time WWN headline was an unintentional musical pun around the time they discovered that Mars rock a few years back -- "SPACE ROCK VIRUS INVADES EARTH!" Oh how we larfed, the little children of Sonic.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I love that in the middle of world crisis, the WWN can remind me of the most important things happening in the US: namely, that Bat Boy has escaped, and doctors need him back so that he can take his medication!

Space Rock Virus. Indeed. I'm deeply afflicted with that one.

Sadly enough World Trade Centre Destroyed sounds like it would be a tabloid hoax.

I was stuck dogsitting in the 'burbs a few weeks ago, so naturally I bought the one that showed the gay skeletons clinging to each other in a Titanic life raft. There were all sorts of psychics' predictions in that issue - I wouldn't be surprised if an attack on Washington or New York was among them.

If you read the WWNews closely enough, you can almost see them winking. Ed Anger, in particular, is a satirist. I like the really mean advice columnist as well.

Kerry, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Frankly it would explain why Hill's has said nary the fuck all over the last week. COnsidering her position I have been hugely surprised by her weeeny low profile.

Pete, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Does Ed Anger still write his "My America" column for the Weekly World News? Seems like he might have some choice words re what's happening now. The last one I remember, and this was ten years ago or more, had the thrust, "SAVE the rain forest?! We should PAVE the rain forest."

Ed machinegunned his way up Pork Chop Hill in Korea to ensure our freedom. He has a plate in his head as a souviner, I believe.

Mark, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm fairly certain that "Ed Anger" is still writing for WWN. Like many advice columnists, he will live as long as he has an audience. :)

Kerry, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

true Ptee. I wonder that too

Pennysong Hanle y, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm calling Pete "Ptee" for the rest of his life, BTW.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

grrrr!

Pennysong Hanle y, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i was upset that no photos caught the popped out boob.

kevin enas, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i was upset that no photos caught the popped out boob.

This sounds like an infinitely more entertaining variation of tossing the bouquet.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 18 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

But was it the same Space Alien that endorsed Gore? Maybe he was doing it just to get closer to Hillary. Its good she got some revenge on Bill. If I remeber right Bat Boy was endorsing Bush.

Mr Noodles, Wednesday, 19 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It's always the same alien. I'll bet it's the same alien that shook hands with Clinton, too. That guy sure gets around.

Kerry, Wednesday, 19 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Is the "P" in "Ptee" silent, as in "Psmith"? In that case he shall be known (verbally) as simply T.

Sam, Wednesday, 19 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The space alien, by the way, was called P'lod. I wonder if the P is silent in that...

Kate the Saint, Thursday, 20 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My heart is broken.

the pinefox, Thursday, 20 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My heart is broken.

...not by Hillary, I hope? I find the idea of a pinefox/Hillary affair somewhat more disturbing & surreal than the Hillary/space alien affair.

Nicole, Thursday, 20 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I think The Pinefox has a bit of a thing about HRC.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Thursday, 20 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

He's not the only one.

Nick, Thursday, 20 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

the "l" is silent if s/hle = a plroper alien

mark s, Thursday, 20 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I think The Pinefox has a bit of a thing about HRC.

Perhaps, but I fear it wouldn't work, except as a sitcom premise. Instead of Dharma & Greg, we could have Pinefox & Hillary. Imagine the comic misunderstandings that would ensue...

pinefox: I'll be off then, dear. I'm going to see Belle & Sebastian tonight. hillary: Belle & Sebastian? Ah yes, I remember them well. Nice little law firm out of Chicago. But why would you need to go all that way for legal help when you've got me around?

(cue audience laughter)

Nicole, Thursday, 20 September 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I heart Nicole. Again. Welcome back.
