ive had mine long, longish, and very long. not since about 1984 have i had it short and looking at my old passport photo i can understand why i grew it all again.
now ive had it all chopped off, and it feels great! i dont even look like my mother ( i did in 1984 ). it seems thicker, healthier and so much easier to deal with.

what is yours like? are you clinging hopefully to sadly thinning locks? is it all shaved off? has it become horribly damaged through years of home-dye use? or is it glorious and causing envy amongst your friends?

donna (donna), Monday, 18 August 2003 06:04 (twenty-two years ago)

what is yours like?

Oh, I think we all know by now...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 18 August 2003 06:07 (twenty-two years ago)

my hair is and will always be my least favourite body part. hence mine is pretty much permanently clipped to a #1 length

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Monday, 18 August 2003 06:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Hair is 3/4" in length almost all over. 'Tis summertime, y'see.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 18 August 2003 06:08 (twenty-two years ago)

As a teenager, I used to have long hair, and I also used to dye it pink or purple. Then, one day I got sick of all the combing and brushing (my hair isn't the easiest to take care of), and said to myself: "Everything must go!". Next day, I went to my hairdresser and told her to cut off everything. I've been a happy baldie ever since, though nowadays my head isn't completely bald (shaving your scalp regularly is quite irritating), I have a short stubble of a hair. Old pictures of me with long hair look really weird today, I'm much happier this way.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 18 August 2003 06:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Thinning and receding, which is annoying since I have curly and ordinarily thick hair: where it thins, it sits oddly.

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 18 August 2003 06:20 (twenty-two years ago)

it's longish, not covering ears or anything, brushed mostly to the right and spikey at the very right of my head and less spikey as you go left and towards the front of my head, so it's almost flat at the front. this sounds ridiculous and maybe it is but it got alot of compliments at the weekend and even a busted comparison so i guess im happy.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 18 August 2003 07:34 (twenty-two years ago)

not about the busted mind you

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 18 August 2003 07:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Short, dark, and messy.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Monday, 18 August 2003 09:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Much like myself, it seems.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Monday, 18 August 2003 09:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Blonde, just below my chin, lots of layers.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 18 August 2003 09:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Obv I dont have lots of hair below my chin, i just meant...oh nevermind!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 18 August 2003 09:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Number one all over, done by me at home every ten days or so. There's almost nothing left of the hair on top, though gratifyingly someone said the other day "no, you're not bald, it's just short!". I set the straight, obviously :/

Mark C (Mark C), Monday, 18 August 2003 10:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Shaggy amd layered all over, in my eyes at the front, then around my ears on the sides and down to the bottom of my neck at the back. I don't live in Hoxton though, honest like.

Alex K (Alex K), Monday, 18 August 2003 10:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, and I used to be blond, sorta, but it's gone fairly dark brown, the hair that's left. It's dead straight too. Irrelevent, I'll shut up now.

Mark C (Mark C), Monday, 18 August 2003 10:28 (twenty-two years ago)

well mine used to be blonde & has now gone brown, but it is blonde now. ssshhhhhh!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 18 August 2003 10:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I am trying to get mine to look like Guile's from Street Fighter II

Millar (Millar), Monday, 18 August 2003 10:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I have amazing technicolor dream hair! It's incredible! I dye it one color and the next day it turns back dark muddy brown. I think I'm going to try blue next weekend and see what happens. With my luck, that will be the color that sticks. I just got it cut into this big shag haircut, I puffed it all up today and now I look like goddamned Barbarella, it is so awesome.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 18 August 2003 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

My hair almost always bothers me. At this point, I've grown it out kind of long but I HATE it down, so I always wear it up. I hated having short hair because I couldn't pull it back if I didn't like it. And my family and NA seem to be in agreement that it looks better long and up than shorter. And by LONG, I mean approx. shoulder-length.
When I was very little, I had beautiful golden blonde hair in tiny curls all over my head. Now my hair is this horrible shade of brown that is totally lackluster. I think next time I get it cut I'll go for a dye too. Every time I've tried to do it at home I've done a really bad job of picking the right color. Last time it was supposed to look reddish brown and instead it looked clown red. Ick.

I'm open for suggestions.

Sarah M on the flying V = her boss won't be able to complain pointlessly in her direction again. Because she will have the rock POWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 18 August 2003 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah, if you're willing at the salon, you should get highlights. Like sort of toffee blonde color. That'd look nice on you. I know what you mean about the short hair/long hair problem--I hate short hair because I cannot do anything with it but like two hairstyles (the Josie hairstyle and the Electroclash hairstyle). BUT having it long it gets too "hangy" and then I end up with it up all the time. How layered is your hair? I didn't notice when I met you because you had it up. You might want to angle it by your face, that way you can still pull it up but it's got a lot more movement.

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 18 August 2003 13:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks, Ally. But I was wondering - As I've never gotten highlights... Should I get my hair dyed AND highlights on top of that or is ok to just get highlights?

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Monday, 18 August 2003 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Curly light brown with golden highlights (mine are natural), and, increasingly, a bit of gray hair. I'm about 10% gray now (silver, actually) and I love the way it looks. It stopped growing at about two inches below my shoulders, and I'm constantly amused by all of the people who think that that makes it really long. It's not.

Christine 'Green Leafy Dragon' Indigo (cindigo), Monday, 18 August 2003 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

skip the haircut and get a flying v.

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 18 August 2003 14:03 (twenty-two years ago)

It's ok to get only highlights, I think. Plus it's a more subtle change--you can get used to the highlights then decide if you want to go lighter. That's what I did when I went back to blonde for a while, and eventually I got my hair entirely blonde on just highlighting. Ask for a full head highlighting, a slightly darker blonde, a bit more up front than in back and see how you like it? Then when you go to get touch ups, just ask them to add more streaks if you like it.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 18 August 2003 14:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Mine is very short, a #1 performed by me every few weeks - actually it's overdue for another cut. Like Mark C, rapidly receding.

Used to be long: it hadn't been cut at all sinec the early '80s until five or six years ago, when I bought the clippers. I used to have it in a plait, or if lazy a ponytail. Loose, it reached over halfway down my back.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 18 August 2003 16:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I buzz mine, too. It's cheap, it's easy, it's cool, and it's currently fashionable. The only snag I have is that my girlfriend misses my hair. I have agreed to grow it back over the winter, when I'll be wearing a hat most of the time anyway, so as to hide the embarrassing 2-month "afro" phase between buzzed and combable.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Monday, 18 August 2003 16:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Im working on my winter hair now.

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 18 August 2003 16:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Ouch. I feel your pain.

Also in the works -- losing weight and dying my hair blonde again. Club scene, here I come!

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Monday, 18 August 2003 16:53 (twenty-two years ago)

i need to lose weight as well. after seeing a picture of myself passed out on a inflatable palm tree with my shirt off.

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 18 August 2003 16:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Mine is shaggy. The front hangs down below my eyes, and the back is hitting the collar. Parted on the side. Need a haircut.

NA (Nick A.), Monday, 18 August 2003 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

im going with this look for the winter.

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 18 August 2003 17:07 (twenty-two years ago)

any suggestions on what to do for dyed black hair that i want to somehow get back to my natural colour (sort of dark ash blonde) or lighter eventually? is it easier to get the dye out if i've let it fade for a while? in the mean time i look horrible having blondish roots with dark dark hair. :(

pretend (pretend), Monday, 18 August 2003 23:53 (twenty-two years ago)

mine's thick, dark and uncontrollably curly when it grows, hence I keep it very short.
