Why are there two different sizes of vinyl records? (7" and 12"), can 12" records hold more music than 7" ones? But but there are 12" singles which don't take up the length of the whole thing so why are they 12" and not 7"?

The 7" was/is the single format, and a way for the record industry to make more money. THere is also the very indie 10"
