I have never won anything in my life, but late at night on boxing day I was bored at work and entered some spam-inucing online competitions and I won a bakewell pudding from the good folks at post-a-pudding.

Ed (dali), Friday, 9 January 2004 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

What if you never win anything again?

andy, Friday, 9 January 2004 18:20 (twenty-two years ago)

But still, a pudding!

luna (luna.c), Friday, 9 January 2004 18:28 (twenty-two years ago)

well done! When does it arrive?

jel -- (jel), Friday, 9 January 2004 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

How does it arrive?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 9 January 2004 18:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm pretty certain this is just the beginning of a remarkable string of good fortune for you, Ed. Here's to more puddings yet to come!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 9 January 2004 18:37 (twenty-two years ago)

in a pudding-mobile, of course!

jel -- (jel), Friday, 9 January 2004 18:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Is it a magic pudding?

luna (luna.c), Friday, 9 January 2004 18:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Atta boy!

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Friday, 9 January 2004 18:41 (twenty-two years ago)

post-a-pudding? i like the sound of that.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 9 January 2004 19:16 (twenty-two years ago)

if you freeze this pudding, can you use it for pudding-curling? be sure to bring your special pudding broom, too!

Kingfishee (Kingfish), Friday, 9 January 2004 19:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Holy shit! I AM EATING tapioca pudding as we speak. What are the chances?!

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Friday, 9 January 2004 19:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I like the idea of winning pudding.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Friday, 9 January 2004 19:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I was going to be in a pudding eating contest...i missed out. But i did participate in the corn competition.

The winner ate 4 1/2 pounds of chocolate pudding. Oof.

El Spinktor (El Spinktor), Friday, 9 January 2004 19:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Was the prize a new duodenum?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Saturday, 10 January 2004 02:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Mmm, chocolate-frosted prolapse.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 10 January 2004 03:06 (twenty-two years ago)

in the long run, I think winning a pudding is better than winning the lottery.

Shep, Saturday, 10 January 2004 08:08 (twenty-two years ago)

If you invest wisely, yes.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Saturday, 10 January 2004 08:13 (twenty-two years ago)

that's a good point, @d@aml.

Shep, Saturday, 10 January 2004 09:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Yum. If you keep up your run of luck, you could live entirely on FREE PUDDING. Tasty.

caitlin (caitlin), Saturday, 10 January 2004 12:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Adam Sandler in PTA's last film to thread.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Saturday, 10 January 2004 12:27 (twenty-two years ago)

$20 can buy many puddings.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Saturday, 10 January 2004 18:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I, but a free pudding must surely taste sweeter.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 10 January 2004 19:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't believe this thread is still seeing action.

may pang (maypang), Saturday, 10 January 2004 19:07 (twenty-two years ago)

It's about pudding, man!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Saturday, 10 January 2004 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I had a roomate who asked girls for "sumadat sweet luv puddin".

bnw (bnw), Saturday, 10 January 2004 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

why? This kinda thread is the essence of ilxor, to me at least!

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 10 January 2004 19:11 (twenty-two years ago)

that why wasn't to bnw.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 10 January 2004 19:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I had a roomate who asked girls for "sumadat sweet luv puddin".

Does this work?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Saturday, 10 January 2004 19:12 (twenty-two years ago)

It sounds like a high risk strategy to me.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 10 January 2004 19:14 (twenty-two years ago)

All this talk about the pudding but no one's asked the most important question. What flavour?

may pang (maypang), Saturday, 10 January 2004 19:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Bakewell flavour! It's hard to describe...Ed will know.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 10 January 2004 19:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I think it requires you to be somewhat goodlookin' and the girl somewhat slutty.

bnw (bnw), Saturday, 10 January 2004 19:16 (twenty-two years ago)

What a great x-post.

may pang (maypang), Saturday, 10 January 2004 19:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Does Ed bring the 2 teaspoons of slutty to the pudding?

bnw (bnw), Saturday, 10 January 2004 19:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Bakewell pudding: pastry base with a layer of marzipan and strawberry jam plus what I think is a strange curd-like layer which I reckon is made with sugar, butter and egg yolks. When you bake it a pool of butter collects in the bottom of the tin, and it is served with custard. No calories in that thing at all, no siree...

suzy (suzy), Saturday, 10 January 2004 19:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Dear God..

may pang (maypang), Saturday, 10 January 2004 19:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I won it from here

Ed (dali), Sunday, 11 January 2004 21:30 (twenty-two years ago)

That looks like being a good pudding then. On Tuesday I had a Bakewell Tart...

Matt (Matt), Monday, 12 January 2004 07:22 (twenty-two years ago)

bakewell tart is neither the same nor from bakewell. Coconut has no place in anything from bakewell.

Ed (dali), Monday, 12 January 2004 08:20 (twenty-two years ago)

...and on wednesday I left Bakewell. Never mind, eh?

Matt (Matt), Monday, 12 January 2004 08:29 (twenty-two years ago)

is the name merely an instruction on how to cook it?

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 12 January 2004 10:45 (twenty-two years ago)

iirc correctly, Ed, a Christmas pudding was one of our prizes at the Swimmer on the 21st Dec. So I suppose you can say you've won 1.125 puddings.

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 12 January 2004 10:49 (twenty-two years ago)

for the definitive bakewell pudding v bakewell tart and other imposters, see:

Flapjacks: Search and Destroy

Vicky (Vicky), Monday, 12 January 2004 11:12 (twenty-two years ago)

there is absolutely no marzipan whatsoever in a proper bakewell pudding! just jam and a frangipane mixture (which is where the almond comes in).

and it has to be made with puff pastry too, so the edges go all crispy and puffed up.

chris (chris), Monday, 12 January 2004 11:15 (twenty-two years ago)

That is the better of the two original bakewell pudding shops in Bakewell though. unless they've started using marzipan......

chris (chris), Monday, 12 January 2004 11:18 (twenty-two years ago)

suzy I believe was confused by the almond taste.

Ed (dali), Monday, 12 January 2004 23:44 (twenty-two years ago)

a frangipane mixture (which is where the almond comes in).

Frangipane? What English major created that word? Tis a complicated word for "water, cinnamon and sugar", surely?

(Congrats though, Ed. Food always tastes better when tis free.)

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 12 January 2004 23:48 (twenty-two years ago)

That's sort of a paradox innit? "Free" makes food taste good, but so does "expensive."

Leee Majors (Leee), Monday, 12 January 2004 23:53 (twenty-two years ago)

But you're actually willing to eat it, if tis free.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Frangipane Nichole is a mixture of egg, ground almonds, milk and sugar, not quite what the original puddings were made from I think (they came about as a mistake in a kitchen in Bakewell (which is one of my favourite towns in Britain)

It's a medieval word iirc

chris (chris), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 09:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm confused. Has it arrived yet or not?

Don't keep us in suspense!

the icebox (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 22:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I only found out I had won went it arrived, it was delicious. I could be persuaded ro order one.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 22:21 (twenty-two years ago)

(I think what happened is that the noun turned out to be a gerund and Ed is still soaking himelf in the tub to get out the smell.)

(Keeerist, that's the most horrifying thing I've written all day *send*.)

(bah xpost)

bent fabric (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 04:21 (twenty-two years ago)

a pudding-loving empty-nester!

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 04:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Apropos of nothing, one of my favorite MST3K moments ever -- a random close-up on Alan Hale chortling in The Giant Spider Invasion, with Crow adding in a merry voice, "Pudding!"

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 05:49 (twenty-two years ago)

seven years pass...

So my parents gave me an extra sealed container of what I was told was pudding. I forgot to, and later opted not to, put it in the fridge. I just ate it after 4 days: To my surprise it turned out to be a semi-solid mousse desert, until I got the the end, where it was pudding like in the middle.

Did I just pretty much kill myself?

Noise II Men (EDB), Monday, 14 November 2011 22:37 (fourteen years ago)

you may lose a pudding.
