I just watched that one Have I Got News For You episode which he guests presented again - i gotta say, as far as light entertainment goes, he's pretty classic. I've already mourned the passing of Noel Edmonds into televisual obscurity, but right now I'm thinking that Brucey was even better. What say you?

classic, tho his face scares me

stevem (blueski), Monday, 12 January 2004 16:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Classic - the definition of Light Entertainment. The HIGNFY episode was grate but he could use a decent vehicle for his talents these days. Another revival of the Generation Game anyone?

Dodgy wig obv.

Funny you should say that...

Sky plus ads with Kelly Brook = recent highlight of his (and her) career.

It sounds like one of Alan Partridge's TV ideas:

"Bruce Forsyth hosts 'Didn't they do well?' a new weekly TV quiz where the contestants don't need to know anything about TV. It's a test of general knowledge that is based on BBC's TV archives (low cost!) using classic TV moments to provide the inspiration for an innovative play-along quiz, a bit like Nowl Edmonds 'TV Addicts'."

But it's not even like Telly Addicts as far as I can tell. More like, "Here is a clip of Blackadder. Didn't the BBC make great telly. Now, what type of animal is an adder?"

I'm laughing but I think I should be crying

I'll just be glad to have him back.

I saw the last couple of minutes of this last night. Oh! it was sad. The cheap computer graphics, the tatty studio, the mummified (and sparse) audience, the bemused contestants wondering exactly who this daft old bloke was, the wall of archived TV quizmasters (in some cases dead - the concept really gave me the creeps), BF trying to do his best to liven up the born-dead programme, all in vain. And it was on against Emmerdale so no one will watch it. He would have been better off not doing it - the whole thing smacked of reduced circumstances/humiliation, just as Monkhouse ended his career doing an equally tatty daytime BBC quiz show. Tragic to watch.

He's a poor man's Jimmy Hill.

@lex K (Alex K), Friday, 16 January 2004 12:01 (twenty-two years ago)

daftest moment:

"Who is the cricketer being introduced.."

Vid: A youngish Parkinson intro piece...

Contestant: "David Gower"..

(umm clue is the film... )

Yikes! Doesn't sound good. Brucie's natural habitat is in big old-fashioned Friday/Saturday night formats that allow for lots of banter with contestants and give him space to perform. Seems like he's being wasted.

robster (robster), Friday, 16 January 2004 12:22 (twenty-two years ago)

did anyone ever understand what Bruce meant by "nice to see you, to see you nice"? What does "to see you nice" mean? And is it funny?

run it off (run it off), Friday, 16 January 2004 12:23 (twenty-two years ago)

They did a special on him recently which I enjoyed... up until he went golfing. CHRIST! He wasn't but still came across as somewhat arrogant.
His face looks scary in the way it's too friendly somehow.

nathalie (nathalie), Friday, 16 January 2004 12:24 (twenty-two years ago)

the word you're looking for, is it 'smug'?

run it off (run it off), Friday, 16 January 2004 12:24 (twenty-two years ago)

or 'sleazy'?

run it off (run it off), Friday, 16 January 2004 12:25 (twenty-two years ago)

And it was on against Emmerdale so no one will watch it.

Spot the flaw in this statement.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 16 January 2004 12:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, back off!! Emmerdale is the most popular programme on ITV in its time slot!

run it off (run it off), Friday, 16 January 2004 12:37 (twenty-two years ago)

it is also the most popular programme with the word 'Emmerdale' in the title

stevem (blueski), Friday, 16 January 2004 12:50 (twenty-two years ago)

That's right, it's even more popular than re-runs of "Emmerdale Farm"

run it off (run it off), Friday, 16 January 2004 12:54 (twenty-two years ago)

11 million viewers for the week when Marlon Dingle bored his poor wife to death with the collected works of Coldplay.

Phoebe Dinsmore, Friday, 16 January 2004 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Marlon is the best cry-er in British soap acting!
