I am plagued with "malcontent" over the absence of Grima Wormtongue from the new LOTR film: does this make me a hopeless dweeb?

He was the worst part of the second film.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 12 January 2004 20:58 (twenty-two years ago)

It makes you kind of perverted.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Monday, 12 January 2004 20:59 (twenty-two years ago)

You are in fact a helpful dweeb.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 12 January 2004 21:00 (twenty-two years ago)

If I say "yes", I sense a sharp sword being flung at my heart. So, yeah;>

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 12 January 2004 21:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Would he be a 'baddie', by any chance?

Andrew L (Andrew L), Monday, 12 January 2004 21:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Indeed, with greasy hair and need of a serious tan.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 12 January 2004 21:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I didn't say I was plagued with malcontent AND nostalgic erections, just malcontent.

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 12 January 2004 21:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Does 'Wormtongue' mean the same in Middle Earth's Common Tongue as it does in english? Or is it Sam's translation?
Cos surely someone would have said 'dood this guy's name means like Liar, we've gotta kill him'?

Tolkein basically ripped off Iago, didn't he?

omg, Monday, 12 January 2004 21:26 (twenty-two years ago)

he'll probably be in the DVD.

Kingfishee (Kingfish), Monday, 12 January 2004 21:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Literally.

Jeez, that IS a nice suit.

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 12 January 2004 21:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Can anyone tell me if the guy who played Grima is the same guy who played the misfit chased all up and down Toto's "Stranger in Town" video?

otto, Monday, 12 January 2004 21:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Not sure, but he was in 'Dune' which was largely soundtracked by Toto!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 12 January 2004 21:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Awesome, thanks. That's the closest to confirmation I'll probably ever be able to get. That video creeped me out as a little kid, and I had some weird deja vu thing when Grima popped up in the second movie.

otto, Monday, 12 January 2004 21:59 (twenty-two years ago)

if you are a hopeless dweeb, then i am one also.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Monday, 12 January 2004 22:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Though I mean it's really an unassailable film, when you come right down to it. Those Matrix ponces might as well direct episodes of Stargate from here on out.

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 12 January 2004 22:15 (twenty-two years ago)

otto, see this page:

http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Lair/8421/dourif.html

"He has also appeared in the music video "Stranger in Town" by Toto."

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 12 January 2004 22:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Cripes, he's 53?!

Ferrrrrrg (Ferg), Monday, 12 January 2004 22:44 (twenty-two years ago)

In his filmography they list him as appearing in RotK. I wonder how much of the Scouring of the Shire arc's going to be on the DVD.

otto, Monday, 12 January 2004 22:53 (twenty-two years ago)

they allegedly didn't film any of it, so it was probably just a guess before the movie came out.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Monday, 12 January 2004 23:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I imagine he'll appear near the beginning of the ROTK extended version with Saruman at Isengard.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 12 January 2004 23:17 (twenty-two years ago)

the bbc article that opens the ROTK thread mentions "7 minutes of climactic scenes" being cut from the film, but that is odd because it would have to be in the beginning, unless PJ took creative license for which the palantir ending up in the flotsam and jetsam.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 12 January 2004 23:25 (twenty-two years ago)

'Climactic' would imply that it is at the end, not the beginning.
Which would be Saruman and Wormtongue aus dem Shire...

zenome kistachion, Monday, 12 January 2004 23:30 (twenty-two years ago)

but PJ has already mentioned no scouring of "sharkey" and grima from the shire.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 12 January 2004 23:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Take a shower.

B61 (calstars), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 00:43 (twenty-two years ago)

That's not directed at the LOTR fans is it?
