Is it acceptable to be seen wearing multiple (not-matching) clothing items / accessories of the same brand/label/shop, or does this just make you look like a wanka?

So big in Oakland - matching shirt, pants, and hat. It's like Gangster Garanimals.

i do sometimes, and the pants even have pleats!

this wonderous phenomenon is called "wearing a suit".

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 01:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, but the pieces of a suit are sold together! I'm talking separates, where the pieces maybe aren't even from the same line.

Well, if they don't at all match and are just from the same designer, what's the problem? Most people probably wouldn't even recognize them as being the same label, so I think there's nothing wrong with that.

but yes, i wear like-branded separates all the time. no biggy. i doubt anyone notices.

I have Ralph Lauren gloves and a scarf, because the first day it was cold enough for me to remember I needed new gloves and a scarf I was in a store that had a big Ralph Lauren display of gloves and scarves. And I like the gloves and scarf, they're nicely functional (i.e. warm) without being too dorky, except that they both have the stupid little horsey on them (only on one glove, fortunately). So I try to make sure that the little horseys are conveniently concealed by coat sleeves, collars, etc. Because having two visible little horseys would be too dorky even for me.

All I can say is H&M.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 11:50 (twenty-two years ago)

if they match, why not?

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 11:59 (twenty-two years ago)

i think that if they have visible labels or other very distinguishing features (like a burberry print, for example) it's a dud. but if they're clothes without obviously identifying where they came from, that's fine. a person could go head to toe in club monaco/gap/h&m and nobody would really notice, because they're all formed around classics with a smidge of trend.

i say this because i can only afford to shop at h&m, it feels like.

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 12:15 (twenty-two years ago)

what is burberry print? i can only afford to shop at op shops. its fucking A. the only labels i have are my hats, they're all fluffy mohair kangols of many a different hue.

what about wearing different gauges of pin stripe, say, wide pinstripe trousers and a narrow pinstripe jacket? Is that bad?

run it off (run it off), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 12:32 (twenty-two years ago)

yes. also REALLY don't wear different kinds of houndstooth. REALLY DON'T. NOT LOOKING AT ANYONE IN PARTICUALR.
