Itchy? Flaky scalp? Racist in the Daily Express?

Do YOU suffer from any of the aforesaid problems? Have you had amusing anecdotes? Are you fond of your flaky scalp debris? Can you scratch your scalp and pretend it is snowing? If so, this is the thread for YOU! Have you solved this problem by judicious application of anti-dandruff shampoo?

DOES YOUR DOG HAVE DANDRUFF??

My father had such problems with this that he washed his hair in Borax. To those unaware of the nature of this goo, it is meant to be used as a hard water softener. It didn't stop his dandruff and smelt VILE.

I have recently kept the scalp under control with a combo of Head and Shoulders shampoo and Pantene conditioner. HURRAH I thort. Then I bought special offer Charles Worthington stuff and my hair is DREADFUL! It goes flaky as SOON AS I GET OUT OF THE SHOWER. Sure when it's all dry my hair feels wubbly but IT IS DISSOLVING MY SCALP SKIN. Rubbish.

I'm having this problem too - I think I've been using my current shampoo for too long. There seems to be a finite time that you can use a shampoo before your hair rejects it. I'm going to initiate a shampoo rotation system and see if that cures it.

i've had this as long as i can remember. i can't conquer it.

I'm just REALLY SHOCKED at how rubbish the expensive shampoo is! I didn't think any existed where there would be such a noticeable problem after use! I also have their specific anti-flaky scalp (ooh is DANDRUFF a rude word now) shampoo, I'll try it but I'm not hopeful.

I do rather like scratching my head and pretending it is snowing but you'll be glad that I keep this activity to my own bedroom.

The worst thing is that I get a clump which is RIGHT ON MY FRINGE. There is no way on EARTH that can be anything good.

i feel your pain. i am kinda intrigued by my own "snowing" in the same way i inspect my used tampons before i flush em.

If you change shampoo though, *any* new shampoo will make your hair feel squeaky clean. I think this is how the shampoo industry sustains itself. "Try it and feel the difference!" - for the first week you're loving it, after that though you're on a slow decline where it doesn't feel as good as it did, but it can't be the shampoo because it felt sooo good last week, so it must be your vitamin intake or something, etc. With shampoo, familiarity breeds dandruff.

neutragena t-gel

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 12:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I used to swear by the stuff (t-gel) but my scalp's got used to it. I've ended up paying £9 for a smallish bottle of vegetable based french stuff, but you only need to use a bit, and it works. Hopefully after a bottle or two of this I can go back to T-gel and it will work again.

Vicky (Vicky), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 12:25 (twenty-two years ago)

You'd think Alfie but right from the off the new shampoo was dodgy. The H&S/Pantene combo was fine for a couple of months with no noticeable decline. I may give T-Gel a bish soon. I'm using larger and larger amounts of C. Worthington's to get through the damn bottle quicker. I thought I might just be a Lazy Rinser but tests have proved this isn't the case!

What French stuff is this, Vicky?

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 12:27 (twenty-two years ago)

i started washing my hair a lot less because i was so annoyed with how dry my scalp went, which is pretty disgusting i know - i just keep forgetting to use conditioner so at least this thread reminded me to stock up on Pantene Pro-V/Timotei and COLTAN-FREE T-Gel (bad news for kate, good news for everyone else fed up with me smelling like old dog)

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 13:01 (twenty-two years ago)

What does T-Gel smell like? I've just been to the supermarket to get something for lunch and I had a look at the shampoos. T-Gel is packaged in a way that suggests that it might smell offputtingly chemical. I played safe and decided to give H&S a go first. The stuff I was using was Andrew Collinge, btw.

Incidently, a friend of mine, who didn't wash his hair at all, had a piece of dandruff the size of a cornflake.

Sarah, the brand is Phytotherathrie , and the shampoo is Phytosylic, and you can buy it here http://www.shopit-uk.com/uk/Beauty/Hair%20Care/Hair%20&%20Scalp%20Treatments/25204/25217/25443/6206388/Phytosylic%20Dandruff%20Shampoo.html among other places.

the way ive found to reduce itchy scalp--the only way--is to switch shampoos every few days. stay armed with like ten different kinds of shampoos.

there must be a better way but i haven't found it.

amateur!st (amateurist), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 14:42 (twenty-two years ago)

my dog gets dandruff sometimes.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 17:50 (twenty-two years ago)

T-gel smells like tar-y ass. i mean, you're meant to build roads with the stuff, not put it on your head

and for all you ladies out there complaining, at least you don't get beard dandruff. ick

JaXoN (JasonD), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 18:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I get eyebrow dandruff! Well it's only dry skin that goes away with moisturizer, but still ew.

Poppy (poppy), Tuesday, 13 January 2004 18:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Patches of dandruff that doesn't go away is possibly = psoriasis!

Hanna (Hanna), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 11:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah, I have been reading a lot of books lately which talk about BAY RUM. I don't know what it is, but people use it to massage each other's scalps. I don't know why.
