Once my mother gave me a godawful Red Hot Chili Peppers tshirt. I dont even LIKE them, but whats worse, it was this bizarre hand-painted picture of some huge teethy smiling Luna Park style face. Totally nonsensical and hideously ugly.

Nothing is not the worst thing to get. That nylon jogging suit was way worse. It was my dad saying to me, "Son, I hardly know you at all. But what little I know about you tells me you like things that are striped."

I'd had been better off if I hadn't known that he thought I would like that gift. I think less of him now than when I didn't know him.
