CAN WE NOT DO THIS PLEASE?

But as noted, ignoring him does nothing, engaging with him does nothing, nothing does nothing.

I am beginning to think that a full-on registered board might be a good idea. It is a pity it means conceding defeat to a friendless idiot, though. Is there seriously no other option? And why hasn't anybody actually gone ahead and contacted his ISP?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 17:25 (twenty-two years ago)

He's not doing anything in contravention of any ISP rules that I have ever heard.

He's just an attention seeking dullard with a weak sense of humour who enjoys annoying people. If you ignore him he might not immediately go away but he's not some kind of board monster who takes over every thread - most of the ones that aren't his or about him he either ignores or makes little trouble on. I don't know why people get so worked up.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 17:29 (twenty-two years ago)

He's not doing anything in contravention of any ISP rules that I have ever heard.

I think wild unprovable accusations about being sent child porn links and the like aren't exactly interesting or kosher. Also, N., he's been here for over a year (almost two?). Your patience may be Buddhalike, mine expired some time back.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 17:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Moments of weakness, Nick. And there'll always be someone to take the bait. Sigh.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 17:31 (twenty-two years ago)

as of now this is my favourite C-Man thread :

Who would win between a fat Gorilla and Russell Crowe in a fight?

could be ruined any minute though

, Wednesday, 14 January 2004 17:33 (twenty-two years ago)

those ones are almost poignant

Ferrrrrrg (Ferg), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 17:34 (twenty-two years ago)

there must be about 50 posters who've insulted and fiercely criticised c-man now - how many more do we need? damn voter apathy...

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 17:36 (twenty-two years ago)

No offense, Ned, but I think if we complained about his porn accusations (of what, more than a year ago?), his ISP would do to us what we've been doing; namely, laugh at us. The crucial difference is that they'd then ignore us if we pressed the issue.

I'm all for a fully-registered board at this point, particularly if we code in an option to post anonymously (not knowing the table structure/foreign key constraints of the system, I don't know how difficult this would be to do).

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 17:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I think if we complained about his porn accusations (of what, more than a year ago?), his ISP would do to us what we've been
doing; namely, laugh at us.

Perhaps, but I also find it interesting that he would settle so thoroughly on that tactic [which he was talking about with specific reference to Mr. Blount as late as November] in a time when there's been increasing focus on net-based child porn scams as well as numerous arrests, particularly in the UK where C-Man is located. If he REALLY wanted to do some damage he would have pursued legal channels but as it is he clings to an attempt to make himself seem like the outraged party with reference to timely matters -- something which suckered in more than a few defenders over time, unfortunately, if not on that particular point.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 17:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned, considering some of the pictures I've seen posted on ILX I don't think you want to start.

Really, why didn't you take the chance to be lippy to my face you big chicken? Because if you had I'd have bloody walloped you one.

P.S. With Blount I never contactd his ISP - I just traced spam mail to it. Please. I'm a little above that.

P.P.S. The gorilla one was good.

C-Man (C-Man), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

an attention seeking dullard with a weak sense of humour

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 17:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned. I'll be in your neck of the woods soon. I suggest you get in my face then. Just pick your meeting place.

C-Man (C-Man), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 17:50 (twenty-two years ago)

c-man i think ned didn't want to meet you because he thinks you are a twat. seems easy enough to understand. i wouldn't want to meet you either based on your behaviour here - though i expect you are not quite so bad in the flesh. maybe i'm wrong there.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

And anyway - what a dick. Ned, I don't even post on most of your beloved threads. I post on my own fucking threads which you are stupid enough to click on and post on as well. I mean, WHAT AN IDIOT!!! Can't you see how easy it is to avoid me on ILX? Really?

C-Man (C-Man), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

What does 'registered' mean? -- we already have passwords etc... < /total luddite>

Enrique (Enrique), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 17:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah and I don't want to be seen with someone called Ned, but as the moron spends his time slagging me off on ILX why can't he do it in person. Well?

C-Man (C-Man), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 17:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned, the fact of the matter is that someone on the board (not Blount, a lurker) did sign him up to some porn lists. Which means that even though he's got the wrong person, his complaint isn't completely imaginary.

On the one hand, I want him to go away because he's unfunny, tedious, and he makes otherwise rational people act like tiresome assholes. On the other hand, I really wish that these otherwise rational people could find the ounce of self-control necessary NOT to act like tiresome assholes when Calum appears. However, Usenet pretty much conclusively proved that my second wish is a ludicrous pipe dream populated by dancing fairies and unicorns and Calum has most likely burned too many bridges to ever be welcomed by ILX as a collective. If I had unlimited amounts of time I would run aound after him and delete all of his posts, but A) I don't have unlimited amounts of time, and B) I think that deleting threads that people have taken over and turned into something "interesting" (by which I mean "something more than an ill-tempered slanging match") is a bad idea and creates even more bad will, only instead of being between Calum and most of ILX it's between ILX posters and ILX moderators.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 17:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh My God (ModJ), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Enrique:

In this case, a "registered" board means that only registered users could post to it. You would have to be logged in to post to the forum.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

see i missed out on Usenet so am just getting it out of my system here.

c-man i don't get what focussing on Ned so much is going to achieve here? you certainly won't change anyone else's impression of him (largely if not entirely positive generally). it seems quite petty and childish. everything you are criticising him (and others) for you are guilty of yourself (hanging out on forums and arguing on threads with people you don't like for example).

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 17:56 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm sure this is all a wind-up/bit of fun in c-man's mind, but just the idea that he wants to meet up with Ned (or anyone else), provoke them into insulting them so he can 'bloody wallop them one' is just...staggering

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

disgusting pic of dead rabbits

apropos bloody, Wednesday, 14 January 2004 18:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Utterly digusting, you should be ashamed posting a picture like that. Really upsetting to myself and, I'm sure, other ILX postees. Not amused.

C-Man (C-Man), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)

To clarify - I've nothing against Ned, just don't like cowards. I prefer people who would be nice enough to say what they mean to my face, y'know?

And that picture is just horrendous. I hope some will look at it and want to find out more about vivisection. Enough voices = stopping this practice.

C-Man (C-Man), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 18:09 (twenty-two years ago)

NOW you're funny!

Ferrrrrrg (Ferg), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 18:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I prefer people who would be nice enough to say what they mean to my face, y'know?

Ferg otm, hahaha

c-man i think you should go and tell it to Chris Martin and Michelle Mcmanus's faces?

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 18:18 (twenty-two years ago)

On the Jerry Springer show, ideally.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 18:20 (twenty-two years ago)

'stop reasoning, more animals' is the best war-cry ever

(although I suppose propagating dead animal photos just to try and break Calum's poor animal loving brain would be a bit like covering your house in shit to try and get rid of an annoying housemate. Or something)

Ferrrrrrg (Ferg), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 18:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Do I have the opp to meet Chris Martin? Ned had the opp to meet me. He's a coward, he should say this shit to my face. As long as he's not willing to he should refrain from posting on my threads.

C-Man (C-Man), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 18:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe you've developed a crush on him.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 18:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Calum, shut the fuck up.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 18:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Dan, everything you have said is totally sensible and I couldn't agree with you more. I lost it somewhat last night, but it was late and I was stressed etc. Calum, sadly, provided a handy whipping boy. It's now hypocritical of me to say this, and I don't want to offend any of you, but a lot of the time the reactions are just as bad. I know he's annoying/ pompus etc (Until last night I could count the number of people I'd taken issue with on-line on my thumbs), but the idea of a registered board makes me sad. I feel it would drive away a lot of new comers and we'd kill some of the diversity of this place.

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 18:29 (twenty-two years ago)

massive x-post: none of us come here to babysit.

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 18:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Anna OTM, except of course for the moderators.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm still the best thing about ILX.

Now who's going to do this properly and actually answer the question? I think all my threads are classic, but maybe i'm biased. I hope not.

C-Man (C-Man), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 18:34 (twenty-two years ago)

http://www.aartfraud.com/phish/weddingphotos/funnyfaces/opus_alexis_funny1.jpg

you're so cute, Wednesday, 14 January 2004 18:38 (twenty-two years ago)

He's a coward, he should say this shit to my face.

you continually bleat this but fail to give good reason. why would someone who dislikes you (for entirely justifiable reasons) want to meet you in person other than out of morbid curiosity?

i am just continuing with that absurd suggestion because it is possibly an interesting topic, maybe even a thread - The Logic Of Confrontation

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 18:40 (twenty-two years ago)

i think you will 'win' this battle because by repeatedly failing to give a constructive explanation or argument to your declarations you can only drive even the most gluttonous bait-takers away out of frustration - but that can't be your objective either surely.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 18:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Calum has declined an invitation to a FAP before, on the grounds that we'd all pick fights with him and that anyway he's 'just an ordinary bloke and we shouldn't be too intrigued' or something, so I wouldn't take what he says too seriously (as if I need to tell you that).

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 18:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I call Calum out on the What Do You Look Like thread.

ModJ (ModJ), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 18:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Not wanting to meet someone you think is an ASSHOLE does not equal 'cowardice'. Life is too short.

I do not think a registered board is a good idea. I have said why before, and don't want to be repetitive.

I thought the only thing wrong w/the 'delete on sight' policy was that it should have been announced to the board.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 18:51 (twenty-two years ago)

See, there's another thing about 'cowardice'. Most people here, I've never met, but could pick out of a crowd of strangers quite easily. What do you look like calum?

Pashmina (Pashmina), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 18:52 (twenty-two years ago)

He's got an earring.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

That doesn't narrow it down much, 'n'.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

It was the "like an uglier Damon Albarn" description that cracked me up.

HAVE THEY EVER BEEN SEEN TOGETHER????? I THINK NOT

ModJ (ModJ), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

How does that dude know I've got an earring? And what guy are you saying I resemble in that picture? The ugly dude on the left or right?

C-Man (C-Man), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Celine sippin' the yeast

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 20:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Come to think of it, Celine does look like an uglier Damon Albarn with that hairdo.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 20:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I just had the greatest vision:

The Oscars. "My Heart Will Go On." Damon.

That would have singlehandedly killed so many careers.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 20:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Which of course would have made me happy.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 20:23 (twenty-two years ago)

"Neaah...fahhh...wherevah you ahhhh..."

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 20:24 (twenty-two years ago)

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGHHHHH!

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 20:26 (twenty-two years ago)

That would be so much more unexpected and interesting than his experimentations with Mali music, etc.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 20:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Or his "lowest lo-fi record ever".

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 20:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Dear god, did I break DB? Here now my son, some comfort food. *hums Fall anti-melodies*

That would be so much more unexpected and interesting than his experimentations with Mali music, etc.

This is true. Oh wait I forgot his groundbreaking score with Michael Nyman for Ravenous. Mm.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 20:38 (twenty-two years ago)

calum i can believe you didn't flip out on me for my post on yr 'defend the indefensible - ilx' thread! you're slipping.

xpost haha i LOOOVED ravenous but i don't remember any of the music

g--ff (gcannon), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 20:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Seriously, how does that dude know I have an earing and what guy is he saying I look like in that pic?

Answers may bring me closer to posting a pic...

C-Man (C-Man), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 20:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Pashmina (Pashmina), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 20:58 (twenty-two years ago)

This is hilarious.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 20:58 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, no pic then.

C-Man (C-Man), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 20:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Daisy the Cow, Wednesday, 14 January 2004 21:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Destroy all C-man threads. Even the ones that're kind of interesting aren't, like, essential or anything. C-man thread = guy farting in an elevator. Only funny in theory.

Thomas Tallis (Tommy), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 22:17 (twenty-two years ago)

also, how fucking thick do you have to be to not grasp the "Ned didn't meet you because he has no interest whatsoever in spending so much as a minute in your company" idea? you should demand a refund from the government for the taxes your parents paid to have you schooled

Thomas Tallis (Tommy), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 22:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Again, Ned is a coward. Get lippy about me in a forum, but get an invitation to extend it to an in person encounter... chicken out. Why? Cos he knows that being lippy to someone's face is a damn right different from doing it on a forum.

What? You think I really, really needed to meet someone called Ned? God man, get real. Get fucking real.
