well, is it?

Kelsey Dilts (kelstarry), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 19:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, it was the name of my cat! He got hit by a car, sadly.

My other cat's name: Felinious Monk

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 19:59 (twenty-two years ago)

my friend named her kitty Ms. Katonic.

she's like that.

Kingfishee (Kingfish), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 20:00 (twenty-two years ago)

It's a cute name, but I can't imagine actually referring to a cat as "Chairman Meow" to its fuzzy little face.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Cat Man Chew

Luigi Vampa (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I named my goldfish Chewbacca.

Sadly he died after I accidently broke his bowl while cleaning it and had to use an upside-down glass head as a makeshift replacement. Something about his new residence didn't agree with him.

RIP Chewbacca: 1999-1999

Dale the Titled (cprek), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 20:08 (twenty-two years ago)

YOu wind up calling it Chairman. Like any other dumb name you give a cat, eventually that just becomes associated with "cat name" to you and it doesn't seem so weird.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 20:08 (twenty-two years ago)

My cat's name is Ike, which is not nearly exciting unless you know that he's named after a bank robber I once knew.

Dale the Titled (cprek), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 20:08 (twenty-two years ago)

...or just "Chair."

Kelsey Dilts (kelstarry), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 20:08 (twenty-two years ago)

My cat's name is Hep.

I'm a 'tard.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 20:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I named my cat Peyote because it was trippy. It ran away.

andy, Wednesday, 14 January 2004 20:10 (twenty-two years ago)

my parents took in my uncle's cat (unc moved to ireland) named "Kitty."
my mom's old cat, who was a great cat, surprisingly affectionate and social, was named Wants In. Mom never got tired of the cat Wants In. Kitty, on the other hand, is a total snob. Until she realizes who puts the snobby food in her snobby bowl, but even then, you know she's just being nice to you because she doesn't want to go hungry.

Luigi Vampa (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 20:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I prefer good ol' "socks".

may pang (maypang), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 20:44 (twenty-two years ago)

One of my cat's names is "Peter Jennings" and it works surprisingly well as just Jennings for short.

A Nairn (moretap), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 20:48 (twenty-two years ago)

If I get another cat I shall call him Mark S.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 20:49 (twenty-two years ago)

or just Marx

A Nairn (moretap), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 20:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Mao tse. I knew a cat who was called this.

mouse, Wednesday, 14 January 2004 20:53 (twenty-two years ago)

David Baddiel's cat was called this (Fantasy Football League era). I didn't get the 'joke' for some time.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 20:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Alternately, my cat Chairman Meow was also named Chairman Mousey Tongue.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 20:58 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, that's awesome.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 20:59 (twenty-two years ago)

our other cat's name is Samuel B. Cat (Beckett)

if I get any more cats they're getting normal names from here on out.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 21:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Nonono, anthony. Your cats must be like the coolest on the playground. Or the alley.

mouse, Wednesday, 14 January 2004 21:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Cat Man Chew

My sister has taken in the cat Mandu while its official human is trying to find regular housing. Somebody in my neighborhood also named a cat Chairman Meow. I used to live in an apartment building with a cat named Ayesha (i.e., She Who Must Be Obeyed, in the book She).

For my part I want to name a cat Moon Sammy (after the Soul Coughing song). In fact, I will know that a certain cat is right for me if it responds to that name.

Anthony, do you like Kitler or Pussolini as a cat name?

j.lu (j.lu), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 21:40 (twenty-two years ago)

PUSSOLINI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had sibling cats named Sanctus and Benedictus at one point.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 21:46 (twenty-two years ago)

"Di Di Meow"

Cameron (Cameron), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 21:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Like "Di Di Mow!"... Those crazy Viet Congs.

Cameron (Cameron), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 21:50 (twenty-two years ago)

My friend Mike name his cat "Dog".

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 23:43 (twenty-two years ago)

And of course, when he got a dog, he named it - you guessed it - "Cat".

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 23:44 (twenty-two years ago)

forgot the "d" in 1st post. it's late and i've eaten too much calimari...

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 23:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Whatever will he name his children?

Slump Man (Slump Man), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 23:48 (twenty-two years ago)

boy and girl for the girl and boy (like that book "a boy call girl") that was a bad book if I remember.

A Nairn (moretap), Wednesday, 14 January 2004 23:49 (twenty-two years ago)

TWEE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Thursday, 15 January 2004 00:29 (twenty-two years ago)

One of my cats is a 14 y/o and her name is Nunny :) She has never had a kitten of her own, but has raised 3.

gale, Thursday, 15 January 2004 01:34 (twenty-two years ago)

My grandparents own all of you. The name for their cat some decades back:

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 15 January 2004 02:06 (twenty-two years ago)

four months pass...
I briefly had a cat named Mr. Grieves, after the Pixies song.

martin m. (mushrush), Friday, 11 June 2004 23:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I named one of my old cats Chester, after a Bunnicula character.

Favorite cat name - Little One. I never got around to naming the little tailless cat and just kept referring to it as "the little one," until she thought that was her name.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Friday, 11 June 2004 23:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha! Bunnicula!

In what I think was my first ever brush with "celebrity," I met James Howe when I was in elementary school, and he autographed my copies of Bunnicula and The Celery Stalks at Midnight.

martin m. (mushrush), Friday, 11 June 2004 23:54 (twenty-two years ago)

A Bunnicula movie is long overdue.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Friday, 11 June 2004 23:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Chairman Meow, Socks and Mrs. Kitty Fantastico are all acceptable cat names. The best cat name, however, is "Cat".

gabbneb (gabbneb), Saturday, 12 June 2004 00:23 (twenty-one years ago)

My old flatmate had a cat called Mescherschmitt 109, which he took to the vet and wrote down his name on the card, me109, the usual abbreviation.

The vet came out, gave a puzzled look and said "melog?"

Incidentally, his other cat was called "cat".

I do like Chairman Meow!

I hate cats.

Keith Watson (kmw), Saturday, 12 June 2004 09:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Raw Patrick (Raw Patrick), Saturday, 12 June 2004 10:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Bob Six (bobbysix), Saturday, 12 June 2004 11:27 (twenty-one years ago)

And I should be suitably ashamed of christening my friend's cat Moggywai.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 12 June 2004 11:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Chris Leonard's cat Bobby was called General Zod.

Keith Watson (kmw), Saturday, 12 June 2004 12:31 (twenty-one years ago)

You know 'mao' means cat in Chinese. The tone is different from Mao Zedong though.

Debito (Debito), Saturday, 12 June 2004 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Whoot whoot CAT NAME NEEDED!
We stopped by PetSmart on Saturday night and ended up adopting a 6 month old orange and white male from the spay and neuter society.
He was going by the name of Alfie, but we want something with a little more chutzpah.
Not so partial to human names for cats, although he would make a good Charlie. He's not very regal, he's more along the silly and lanky line.
Please help me name him or he will be stuck with Pumpkin!

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Monday, 10 October 2005 14:54 (twenty years ago)

I like naming orange cats for oranges: Nesbitt, Satsuma, Valencia, Clementine, etc.

Jimmie Walker

bingo (Chris V), Monday, 10 October 2005 15:21 (twenty years ago)

My grandmother had a succession of orange cats named James Henry. The final James Henry (maybe the fourth?) was called Jimbo. The rest went by the full "James Henry."

I think it is a nice name, and a damn fine idea to give all your cats the same name.

quincie, Monday, 10 October 2005 15:59 (twenty years ago)

ha, i love strongo's suggestion

bingo (Chris V), Monday, 10 October 2005 16:05 (twenty years ago)

My cat's name is Death to Christians. She comes up first if you google
image search for: the best cat in the world

She had four kittens, all named Bumblebee.

There's another cat the lives in my house but doesn't belong to anyone
named Future Dead Cat.

My cousin had a cat named 'master' she figured it was a pretty accurate description of any cat and she might as well save some time by just stating the obvious

Aimless (Aimless), Tuesday, 11 October 2005 18:55 (twenty years ago)

Whatever you call it you must ridicule it daily for it's lack of opposable thumbs and ask for reports on the status of the cat space program and any breakthroughs in cat science or any new works of cat art. This will help you feel superior even though the cat gets to lie on your TV all day and sleep while you go to work. You must also ask it rhertorical questions and answer them yourself. Stuff like Aww have you got fluffy paws? Yes you have, Awww fluffy paws.
