How good-looking are pop stars and film stars?

When people say such and such celeb isn't very good looking, would they say the same if they met them in everyday life? Or is the bar higher for celebrities, cause hey, they're the pinnacle of the species? Or would loads of people you know or see in the street be classed as 'renowned beauties' if they were on screen and had beauticians and stylists on hand to bring out the best in them? I veer towards the latter. As I may have mentioned before, I went to school with Jude Law. He looked basically the same as he does now, just younger, and yeah he was considered good-looking, but it wasn't like everyone was fainting and not able to understand what this god was doing in our everyday lives.

I know that the pinefox thinks all the ladies on telly are beautiful.

Lenny Kr@vitz is fairly hot on tv when he's wearing his foundation, has his shirt open and is shot from low angles. I stood next to him at a show and he was short, big-headed (as I hear most photogenic people are), and had a surprisingly unclear complexion. Just a guy.

There are some celebrities that are genuinely beautiful (eg: Kate Winslet, Sophie Ellis-Bextor), and others that require a lot of making up (eg: Britney Spears, Nicole Kidman).

I think a lot of people expect celebrities to be better looking than the average person because people always have weird ideas about who "deserves" fame -- I guess extraordinary looks is one of attributes that is considered as justification for fame.

There's definitely different categories: people I fancy on screen (Nicole Kidman, say) - people I don't fancy on screen but would in real life (a lot of TV presenter types) - people I could never really fancy under any circumstances (Britney Spears, Princess Di (when she was alive, I mean)).

THEREFORE, mathswise, being on the street is a sexier experience than cinema/magazines because there are more people to fancy (i.e. 2 out of 3 of the fairly-good-looking ones, rather than 1 out of 3).
