So essentially if this site is to be believed the US took over this hunk of territory in Australia years back and not even the Australian cabinet knows what goes on there. Perhaps not surprisingly and/or for other more obvious reasons, some object.

Elvis Telecom, Millar and anyone else vaguely interested in this kind of thing to thread.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 16 January 2004 03:56 (twenty-two years ago)

NO one here talks about it anymore really. Sometimes I'm surpised its still there. Its all a bit Area 51 really...

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 16 January 2004 03:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Like Area 51? I COULD NOT IMAGINE ELVIS BEING INTERESTED IN THAT. ;-)

Actually he went to Australia once, surely he tried to get near there.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 16 January 2004 03:59 (twenty-two years ago)

No doubt it involves a genetically-engineered race of Mutant Kangaroo Commandos who will soon be unleashed to achieve total global domination.

I'm sure the koala tacos are the finest anywhere.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 16 January 2004 04:09 (twenty-two years ago)

(Jesus now I'm dying with laughter at thinking of flocks of koalas raised for Mexican entrees.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 16 January 2004 04:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Imagine the PETA campaigns that would spawn. The mind reels.

o. nate (onate), Friday, 16 January 2004 04:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Eisbär (llamasfur), Friday, 16 January 2004 04:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Clearly Australia has been lax in developing these fine food products.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 16 January 2004 04:20 (twenty-two years ago)

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 16 January 2004 04:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Eisbär, Brisbane MBA 2004 (llamasfur), Friday, 16 January 2004 04:23 (twenty-two years ago)

The male (?) platty has a huge poisonous SPIKE on his rear leg/flipper thingy! S'true!

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 16 January 2004 04:24 (twenty-two years ago)

since the aborigines (i.e., the original australians) were the ones to think up the notion of WITCHEDY GRUBS, i think that the australians have an innate knack for developing interesting foodstuffs.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Friday, 16 January 2004 04:24 (twenty-two years ago)

So you're saying that Australian guys pound beer, toss dwarves and eat platypi tails to prove their manhood.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 16 January 2004 04:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Well it'd certainly explain a hell of a lot :-/

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 16 January 2004 04:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Fearsome.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 16 January 2004 04:26 (twenty-two years ago)

From http://rainforest-australia.com/platypus_poison.htm :

WHAT TO DO IF SPURRED?

If spurred, take first-aid action as for snake-bite - i.e.

immobilise the injured limb with a pressure-bandage and splint;

keep calm and avoid strenuous movement;

seek medical assistance as soon as possible.

The pain appears to be controlled more effectively by local nerve-blocking agents than by morphine-related drugs. Placing ice or cold-packs on the site of the spur wound is not advisable as this may actually intensify the discomfort.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 16 January 2004 04:26 (twenty-two years ago)

WE R HARKORE, PH3AR OUR MONSTROUS BEASTIES. OK THEY LOOK ALL CUTE AND FURRY BUT THEY BITX0R!!!!!!!!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 16 January 2004 04:32 (twenty-two years ago)

mullygrubber (gaz), Friday, 16 January 2004 04:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 16 January 2004 04:34 (twenty-two years ago)

So Pine Gap, then.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 16 January 2004 04:35 (twenty-two years ago)

mullygrubber (gaz), Friday, 16 January 2004 04:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Australia exists merely to give Animal Planet exciting stuff to show on TV. ;-)

lyra (lyra), Friday, 16 January 2004 04:36 (twenty-two years ago)

It's like summer there now, isn't it? That's so weird. It's butt cold here.

mullygrubber (gaz), Friday, 16 January 2004 04:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I just checked Yahoo weather. It's 2° outside right now (that's Fahrenheit for you metric-system-using weirdos).

o. nate (onate), Friday, 16 January 2004 04:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Wait, come back. I was only joking about that "weirdos" stuff.

o. nate (onate), Friday, 16 January 2004 04:59 (twenty-two years ago)

OH well, I need to sleep anyway.

o. nate (onate), Friday, 16 January 2004 04:59 (twenty-two years ago)

was there widespread hysteria o/s about our crocodile man dangling his kid?

Some people were saying that was worse than Michael Jackson dangling one of his kids over a balcony...and these days you have to be pretty damn low to be worse than MJ.

j.lu (j.lu), Friday, 16 January 2004 05:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Poor Steve Irwin. He truly wouldn't have thought what he did was a bad thing. Hes one of life's Fools, in the tarot sense.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 16 January 2004 05:29 (twenty-two years ago)

this thread was like a supernova

Eisbär (llamasfur), Friday, 16 January 2004 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

It burned so bright.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 16 January 2004 17:29 (twenty-two years ago)

It blinded us, but the memories are worth more than sight.

o. nate (onate), Friday, 16 January 2004 17:38 (twenty-two years ago)
