tonight apparently we can watch it snow. i've been waiting for a few hours, not a flake in sight.
― paper plans (tipsy mothra), Monday, 2 March 2009 00:45 (seventeen years ago)
but the weather channel promises it's almost here.
― paper plans (tipsy mothra), Monday, 2 March 2009 00:46 (seventeen years ago)
If we all think "snow day" really hard, then it will happen!
― saudade, Monday, 2 March 2009 00:46 (seventeen years ago)
people were at the grocery store earlier clearing out the milk and bread. (of course sunday afternoon's always like that, but this was escalated.)
― paper plans (tipsy mothra), Monday, 2 March 2009 00:50 (seventeen years ago)
not that it's actually physically possible to get snowed in in new york.
― paper plans (tipsy mothra), Monday, 2 March 2009 00:51 (seventeen years ago)
i am just hoping the beer distributor is open til 9 or so...
― ian, Monday, 2 March 2009 00:54 (seventeen years ago)
Why do people frantically buy milk and bread if they hear it might snow? If you really do get snowed in are those the two things you need to sustain you?
― saudade, Monday, 2 March 2009 00:56 (seventeen years ago)
Czespol Kryzchwski and his crew of drunken anti-semites better be ready to shovel the porch tomorrow morning. I have a strange feeling I'll be schlepping to school no matter how bad it snows.
― burt_stanton, Monday, 2 March 2009 00:58 (seventeen years ago)
Haha I would never get out of work if it snowed a lot but I'd like to think it's hilarious that my boss will return from a week in Hawaii to this!
― yur twit (tehresa), Monday, 2 March 2009 01:03 (seventeen years ago)
Why do people frantically buy milk and bread if they hear it might snow?
some kinda lizard-brain thing. (i buy beer and toilet paper.)
― paper plans (tipsy mothra), Monday, 2 March 2009 01:05 (seventeen years ago)
so excited
― Surmounter, Monday, 2 March 2009 01:12 (seventeen years ago)
hrrmph. the weather channel -- which is heralding all this with a graphic that says MEGA-SNOW MONDAY -- claims "new york city has snow coming down." maybe, but the upper west side is still boringly snow-free.
― paper plans (tipsy mothra), Monday, 2 March 2009 01:47 (seventeen years ago)
cars in Brooklyn have a wet coating.
― Dr Morbius, Monday, 2 March 2009 01:51 (seventeen years ago)
not snowing here in nj...
― max, Monday, 2 March 2009 01:51 (seventeen years ago)
I really hope the two professors I have tomorrow both have some kind of super-long car commute and cancel class.
― Bonobos in Paneradise (Hurting 2), Monday, 2 March 2009 01:52 (seventeen years ago)
this promise of snow was a bald faced lie. That snow's not gonna stick.
― burt_stanton, Monday, 2 March 2009 01:57 (seventeen years ago)
bold
bold-faced names with bald-faced lies
― paper plans (tipsy mothra), Monday, 2 March 2009 01:59 (seventeen years ago)
oh, I was right the first time. What a weird expression
― burt_stanton, Monday, 2 March 2009 02:01 (seventeen years ago)
nevermind, can't find my old AP Style Guide
― burt_stanton, Monday, 2 March 2009 02:02 (seventeen years ago)
the snow is sticking to cars and cooler patches of sidewalk here in prospect heights. (beer distributor was not open, had to go to overpriced deli.)
― ian, Monday, 2 March 2009 02:14 (seventeen years ago)
I think the most accepted explanation of "bald-faced" is without facial hair, i.e. no need to hide facial expression because no shame.
― Bonobos in Paneradise (Hurting 2), Monday, 2 March 2009 02:31 (seventeen years ago)
Could also mean white-faced, but not sure why white-faced would = shameless.
its is snowing and im going to buy a sandwich also i am watching rainman
― ice cr?m, Monday, 2 March 2009 02:33 (seventeen years ago)
i hope it's not too nasty next weekend (when i go to new york)
― Tracy Michael Jordan Catalano (Jordan), Monday, 2 March 2009 02:40 (seventeen years ago)
it'll be all goopy
― Surmounter, Monday, 2 March 2009 02:41 (seventeen years ago)
still drizzling in North Brooklyn; no snow to be seen.
― burt_stanton, Monday, 2 March 2009 02:49 (seventeen years ago)
this thread is teaching me not to trust ilx. it was snowing in manhattan (within ten block radius of union sq., certainly) and is topically snowing in jersey. i don't know how anything would pile up on the pavement in the city, but cars might look pretty.
― schlump, Monday, 2 March 2009 03:46 (seventeen years ago)
sticking to cars here, not ground yet. it is so far not of a density to justify its weather channel graphics. but maybe the good stuff'll show up after midnight.
― paper plans (tipsy mothra), Monday, 2 March 2009 03:52 (seventeen years ago)
i kinda figure that as soon as it's wet on the ground, nothing's going to stick, but maybe the stature of this snow that newscasters are gasping at can overcome my primitive logic. this winter was a little underwhelming in terms of stumbling around crashing through feet of snow, so it'd be nice to have one last chance.
― schlump, Monday, 2 March 2009 03:53 (seventeen years ago)
sticking somewhat to ground here in central-ish brooklyn
― th' UGH life (donna rouge), Monday, 2 March 2009 03:59 (seventeen years ago)
Wasn't sticking in hell's kitchen. Just spent a long while waiting for 7 to leave queensboro, during which time someone yelled at me re: positioning of my bag and there was a nasty fight on the platform. This could just be weekend work and not snow related, though.
― yur twit (tehresa), Monday, 2 March 2009 04:11 (seventeen years ago)
definitely sticking in sunnyside.
― yur twit (tehresa), Monday, 2 March 2009 04:22 (seventeen years ago)
I think the closer you are to water, the warmer the air is? No idea, but that may explain the Greenpoint/Hell's Kitchen rain issue. I hear the worst is supposed to be during rush hour tomorrow.
― burt_stanton, Monday, 2 March 2009 04:56 (seventeen years ago)
snow update please -- I am too lazy to go to my window
― Bonobos in Paneradise (Hurting 2), Monday, 2 March 2009 05:09 (seventeen years ago)
Although sound of car that just passed was not promising - more wet-road-like than snow
ok sidewalks and street out my window are now white.
― paper plans (tipsy mothra), Monday, 2 March 2009 05:12 (seventeen years ago)
lots of snow here now!

HAPPY, Y'ALL?
hate this shit. on workdays esp.
― Dr Morbius, Monday, 2 March 2009 12:16 (seventeen years ago)
This storm was lame. It snowed just enough to be incredibly irritating, but not enough for anything to be canceled.
― burt_stanton, Monday, 2 March 2009 13:17 (seventeen years ago)
it is snowing
― ice cr?m, Monday, 2 March 2009 13:36 (seventeen years ago)
it's a respectable march snow. nothing spectacular. out my window:

really hard

i guess all the schools are shut. central park sledders will be out in force.
― paper plans (tipsy mothra), Monday, 2 March 2009 14:46 (seventeen years ago)
i am opting to go in late. not because i was given the option, but because i decided to take it.
― yur twit (tehresa), Monday, 2 March 2009 14:48 (seventeen years ago)
it just seems really unfair that there is a giant public school sitting there closed right outside my window but i have to make an effort to go in.
― yur twit (tehresa), Monday, 2 March 2009 14:50 (seventeen years ago)
i was in rochester for the blizzard of '93. rochester does not like to shut things down for snow. it hit saturday night, and by monday morning my car was still actually buried up to the door handles. i called in to work and they were like 'oh, get a ride with someone.' my neighborhood being totally impassable, i hiked a half-mile to be picked up on a street corner near the inner loop.
― paper plans (tipsy mothra), Monday, 2 March 2009 14:52 (seventeen years ago)
yeah. last year there i lived in greece but worked in w. henrietta. they would not make any exceptions to their 'you get a 'demerit' if you are late more than 2:59 past your scheduled start time' policy even during ridiculous snow. it was lame.
― yur twit (tehresa), Monday, 2 March 2009 14:54 (seventeen years ago)
lol @ everything shutting down after a little bit of snow
― Tracy Michael Jordan Catalano (Jordan), Monday, 2 March 2009 14:59 (seventeen years ago)
yeah it is pretty funny. i think this is the first time schools have closed since i've lived here!
― yur twit (tehresa), Monday, 2 March 2009 15:00 (seventeen years ago)
it is 'tudes like tza's that hv crippled US productivity.
in MY day, NY had 20-inch snowfalls every year. and it didn't melt til May.
― Dr Morbius, Monday, 2 March 2009 15:08 (seventeen years ago)
obama should take advantage and declare wall street closed til spring.
― paper plans (tipsy mothra), Monday, 2 March 2009 15:11 (seventeen years ago)
lol @ 20"
― Tracy Michael Jordan Catalano (Jordan), Monday, 2 March 2009 15:22 (seventeen years ago)
yes, we know, dairy states laff at NY pansies.
― Dr Morbius, Monday, 2 March 2009 15:24 (seventeen years ago)
snow is pretty
― ice cr?m, Monday, 2 March 2009 15:30 (seventeen years ago)
Libaries are open--so the kids will likely flock here (which is the last place I would have gone during a snow day!).
