Ed (dali), Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:38 (twenty-two years ago)

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I could of course remember to get the beer that's rolling round the boot of my car so I don't have to trouble the pub.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:43 (twenty-two years ago)

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:46 (twenty-two years ago)

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:47 (twenty-two years ago)

i mean i'm sorry gaz

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:48 (twenty-two years ago)

but then she was about to die, and wildfire re-appeared. or i think that's how it went?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:49 (twenty-two years ago)

THATS SAD TOO!!!!

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:49 (twenty-two years ago)

She comes down yellow mountain on a dark flat land she rides
On a pony she named Wildfire
With a whirlwind by her side
On a cold and drafty night

Oh they say she died one winter
When there came a chilling frost
And the pony she named Wildfire
Busted down his stall
In a blizzard he was lost
She ran calling Wildfire (3 times)

By the dark of the moon I planted
But there came an early snow
There's been a hoot owl howling outside my window now
For six nights in a row
She's coming for me I know
And on Wildfire we're both gonna go
We'll be riding Wildfire (3 times)

On Wildfire we're going to ride her
Gonna leave it all behind
Yes she's always shining right out of my mind
Riding Wildfire

Thank you Google.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:50 (twenty-two years ago)

hey di when r u coming up here and is it to play?

hellbaby (hellbaby), Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:50 (twenty-two years ago)

*looks at lyrics again* "She's always shining right out of my mind"? Dear god, the whole country was stoned in the seventies.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:51 (twenty-two years ago)

i dunno
She comes down yellow mountain on a dark flat land she rides seems like the best iopening line EVAH right now.

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:52 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, ok, it was the DUDE singing the song that was gonna see wildfire and the chick who died earlier riding the pony she named wildfire.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:53 (twenty-two years ago)

i.e., the singer-dude was dying at the end ... that's the deal w/ the owls and shit, i suppose.

why couldn't split enz or the bats do a song like that?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:54 (twenty-two years ago)

By the dark of the moon I planted

...weed.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:56 (twenty-two years ago)

more like 'shrooms

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:56 (twenty-two years ago)

hahaha!

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:57 (twenty-two years ago)

apropos to nothing ... except that we've got a stoned seventies theme going on here ... look at this funny picture of sonny and cher that i found online:

http://www.pictavia.org/A&S/weapons/media/JWPicts.jpg

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:58 (twenty-two years ago)

more like 'shrooms

Either way, I like the idea that the singer was skulking around somewhere planting illicit crops at 1 am.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 18 January 2004 07:59 (twenty-two years ago)

its a subtle line that fills in immense character details

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 18 January 2004 08:01 (twenty-two years ago)

HAHAHAHAHAHA YOU FUCKERS CRAK ME Up!!!!! yeah everyone wasstonedin then70s, why you think i came out such aretard in 1979/slow spermi tells ya. hey hellbaby we coming to christchruch for waitangiday, gigat creation. even your badass daughter can come!!!!

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 18 January 2004 08:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Um, Eisbar, the explanation for the scenario you described a bit upthread here is that Split Enz wrote "Message To My Girl". Once you write something like that, that's it, you've done it all, you cannot possibly write anything more perfect than that ever again. "Wildfire" does not pull me in nearly as much as that lovely New Wave-era love song does.

Plans for my Sunday night involve probably going to Sunday Mass, going out to dinner after Mass, coming home, and maybe with a bit of luck I will have my new computer set up and will be introduced to the world of decent computers. And maybe with a bit more luck, I will still be able to go online.

there's a midi playing wildfire ... and mr. murphey is riding on a pony that looks a hella lot like wildfire

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 18 January 2004 08:05 (twenty-two years ago)

good on ya dee!

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 18 January 2004 08:05 (twenty-two years ago)

i can'ty even figureout what my last post means. the space bar on this keyboard is rooted, its NOT mebeing adrunken slag

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 18 January 2004 08:07 (twenty-two years ago)

my 2 year old just came in, said he wanted to sit up on this chest next to the computer. i says "what for" he says "nuffin" then he says "i just did a great big fart. it smelly" then he gets down and leaves the room.

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 18 January 2004 08:08 (twenty-two years ago)

*Oh they say she died one winter
When there came a chilling frost
And the pony she named Wildfire
Busted down his stall
In a blizzard he was lost
She ran calling Wildfire*

Waitaminnit... if she's dead, how can she run calling anything? This song makes no sense.

lopve (lopve), Sunday, 18 January 2004 08:11 (twenty-two years ago)

mebbe she died running out in the blizzard after the horse?

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 18 January 2004 08:13 (twenty-two years ago)

so, according to you mr. raggett, wildfire is about this hippy dude who brought this hippy chick and her pony to some place in the woods, but it was cold and 'cause they were stupid stoned hippies they didn't properly prepare themselves or properly tend to themselves. so, the hippy chick died of frostbite and the horse ran off 'cause the singer was a stupid stoned hippy who didn't keep the fucking thing tied up. sometime after that, the hippy dude gets smarter and smokes a shitload of weed (or eats a shitload of shrooms) before it snows again and kills the shit -- he gets stoned outta his mind, but because he's still a stupid hippy he's under-dressed as a motherfucker of a snow storm hits. so you got this hippy dude who's zorked outta his mind on illicit substances and the cold, and he hallucinates that the horse and the hippy chick come outta nowhere before he drops dead of frostbite 'cause he's a stupid stoned hippy.

right?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 18 January 2004 08:13 (twenty-two years ago)

itsthe protagonistthatscallingwildfire. thisspacebar is fucked. gaz you're two year old is funny. when myniece was two, my dad taught her how to say "i'm a little ocker." laughs ensued. her parents weren't impressed.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 18 January 2004 08:14 (twenty-two years ago)

properly tend to the horse, i mean.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 18 January 2004 08:14 (twenty-two years ago)

tad you don't like hippiesmuch do you?

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 18 January 2004 08:15 (twenty-two years ago)

did u go to mr. murphey's webpage, though?

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 18 January 2004 08:17 (twenty-two years ago)

no.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 18 January 2004 08:19 (twenty-two years ago)

actually, i think that ned (and myself) are wrong about "wildfire" being about being stoned. from mr. murphey's webpage:

Michael also was a part of the country rock rebels of California, where he befriended Linda Ronstadt, Michael Nesmith, Kenny Rogers, members of the Eagles, Roger Miller, Buck Owens, Merle Haggard and founding members of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Michael moved to Colorado in 1974 to get away from the Austin drug scene. Michael Martin Murphey has always been deeply opposed to drug abuse.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 18 January 2004 08:20 (twenty-two years ago)

awww

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 18 January 2004 08:21 (twenty-two years ago)

That doesn't make the lyrics make any more sense. And it doesn't near make up for Dan Fogelberg covering the song.

lopve (lopve), Sunday, 18 January 2004 08:23 (twenty-two years ago)

o yeah...its the guy singin: "she ran caling wildfire", isn't ot?

but he may have been opposed cause he had such an awful experience out there with the chick and horse and the dope?

hahah i forgot eisbar was tad.

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 18 January 2004 08:23 (twenty-two years ago)

more about "wildfire," from our friends at allmusic.com:

In 1974, Murphey moved to Epic Records, a division of Columbia, and recorded the first of six albums, Michael Murphey, that same year. It was his second album, Blue Sky - Night Thunder, recorded in 1975, however, that marked Murphey's commercial breakthrough. He had first heard the story about a ghost horse rescuing people on the desert when he was a boy, from his grandfather, and Murphey dreamed of something similar one night as an adult and set it down to music and words in half an hour that same evening. The resulting song, "Wildfire," got to number three on the pop charts in 1975 and became Murphey's first gold record. Another song off of the same album, "Carolina in the Pines," also made the Top 30.

i just downloaded this offa soulseek -- there's this piano impromptu at the beginning and the end of it that i'd never heard before. then mr. murphey starts singing about wildfire.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 18 January 2004 09:10 (twenty-two years ago)

i love the piano intro/outro. its really touching

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 18 January 2004 09:11 (twenty-two years ago)

So the horse is a ghost? NOW it makes sense!

lopve (lopve), Sunday, 18 January 2004 09:15 (twenty-two years ago)

markers, should i get an ipad or an ipad mini for my birthday?

très hip (Treeship), Monday, 14 April 2014 02:58 (twelve years ago)

sorry, request an ipad or ipad mini. i don't really care to research the specifics. i am mainly going to use it as a calendar etc. to organize my life, utilizing apps, but am also going to read books on it.

très hip (Treeship), Monday, 14 April 2014 02:59 (twelve years ago)

is there a loss of functionality with the mini?

très hip (Treeship), Monday, 14 April 2014 02:59 (twelve years ago)

my only advice is def don't get the last one (just "ipad mini"), which is actually the one i have, but i've had it since december 2012, and if you're gonna get a mini you should go retina.

basically, to simplify it, i'd recommend getting either the ipad air or the "ipad mini w/ retina display"

markers, Monday, 14 April 2014 03:02 (twelve years ago)

http://www.apple.com/ipad/compare/

markers, Monday, 14 April 2014 03:02 (twelve years ago)

that'll give you an idea of the differences. you want the first one or the third one. the second one is an ipad 4, which came before the air, and you don't want it. the last one you don't want either. the air is bigger than the mini. if you're going to use the thing for mainly reading you may want the mini. they should both run the same apps. if you want input from others, here's where to ask: New Apple Lust Objects for 2010 and onward

markers, Monday, 14 April 2014 03:03 (twelve years ago)

keep in mind that the new iphone coming out this fall will have a larger display than the iphone 5/5s/5c. i don't know if that matters to you, but if i end up getting one of them, there's a chance my next ipad would be an air instead of a mini, because it might be ridiculous to own both a large phone and a small tablet.

markers, Monday, 14 April 2014 03:06 (twelve years ago)

finally, consider going to an apple store and trying both of them out. whichever one you pick, they're not cheap, and you're gonna be stuck with it for a while so try before you buy.

markers, Monday, 14 April 2014 03:10 (twelve years ago)

anyway, i'm gonna split for now but you know where to find me if you have other questions!

markers, Monday, 14 April 2014 03:14 (twelve years ago)

thanks markers! good tip about not getting the regular ipad (with retina display). i'll try to stop by the apple store one day after work.
