900 calories for a fake "cappucino"?!?!

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 18 January 2004 21:54 (twenty-two years ago)

but so, so tasty

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 18 January 2004 21:55 (twenty-two years ago)

"coffee", obv. i dunno what a "coffe" is...some sort of hairstyle popular in williamsburg if i had to guess.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 18 January 2004 21:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I remember a weird ice cream coffee thing, here for a while, it was called something that began with chip. It was very addictive and expensive, only one place sold them.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 18 January 2004 22:09 (twenty-two years ago)

900 calories? what's in it? how big is it? i'm fascinated.

lauren (laurenp), Sunday, 18 January 2004 22:13 (twenty-two years ago)

the late lamented "sugar cookie" "cappucino" from thee wawa. 24oz. this, along with the booze, is assuring that while i don't eat anymore i keep gaining weight.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 18 January 2004 22:35 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, jesus. those kinds of things are the devil's handiwork. have you considered adding some liquor and killing two birds with one stone?

lauren (laurenp), Sunday, 18 January 2004 22:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I really don't understand these coffees which are over a pint of milk in which you can't taste the coffee. Just enough milk to take off the clarity then some foam in the size of cup it seams impossible to provide in this country.

Ed (dali), Sunday, 18 January 2004 22:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Caffe Nero cappucino, Ed?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 18 January 2004 23:09 (twenty-two years ago)

still too much milk. I have taken to instructing UK baristas to stop pouring the milk when I say 'hold on there, that's too much milk, you swine'.

Ed (dali), Sunday, 18 January 2004 23:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Also you can't get a proper dry cappuccino over here. coffee underneath, lots of foam on top, or a decent machiato, but there isn't coffee bitter enough to warrant a machiato over here but still.

Ed (dali), Sunday, 18 January 2004 23:15 (twenty-two years ago)

oh bitch bitch bitch

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 18 January 2004 23:24 (twenty-two years ago)

hey, I'm very particular about my coffee and opposed to the anglo saxon milk fascists who insist on masking the taste with their cow juice.

Ed (dali), Sunday, 18 January 2004 23:25 (twenty-two years ago)

look, drink, get fat, be happy...IT'S THE AMERICAN WAY DAMMIT

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 18 January 2004 23:26 (twenty-two years ago)

but think how much more wired you can get with less milk.

Ed (dali), Sunday, 18 January 2004 23:27 (twenty-two years ago)

to add to the bitch fest: the lack of proper iced coffee in london drives me nuts. it's always blended with ice and everyone tries to dump whipped cream on top. when i asked someone at a caffe nero for an iced americano, he told me there was no such thing.

lauren (laurenp), Sunday, 18 January 2004 23:30 (twenty-two years ago)

It is the terror of the frappucino. World's best iced coffee, Indian coffee house, Shimla India.

Ed (dali), Sunday, 18 January 2004 23:35 (twenty-two years ago)

hmm. perhaps someday i can check that claim out for myself. there's a coffee place in brick lane that i like, despite the fact that they offer blended banana cappucinos, but as i usually stay in north london it's not practical for everyday visiting. where's the good coffee in n4?

lauren (laurenp), Sunday, 18 January 2004 23:50 (twenty-two years ago)

when i asked someone at a caffe nero for an iced americano, he told me there was no such thing.

!!!! Iced Americanos are how I survive my hilly 2 mile walk home from work in the summer. I'm glad Seattle baristas are at least happy to make them.

lyra (lyra), Monday, 19 January 2004 00:13 (twenty-two years ago)

if it ain't written on the board by the corporate mega-culture you-ain't gettin' it.

Ed (dali), Monday, 19 January 2004 00:16 (twenty-two years ago)

See now this is why I love Melbourne. Place is full of Italians, Greeks and Turks = 3 of the best kinds of strongass, dark, give you hair on your chest coffee in the world. Huzzah!

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 19 January 2004 00:33 (twenty-two years ago)

These vending machine cans of coffee in Japan are outrageously good.

lenz, Monday, 19 January 2004 02:59 (twenty-two years ago)

coffee in a can cannot be good

Ed (dali), Monday, 19 January 2004 03:01 (twenty-two years ago)

you know what you people all need to do? NOT DRINK COFFEE IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE TASTE OF COFFEE! i have hot chocolate powder in the cupboard if you would like something sweet, milky and innofensive to your UNTERMENCH palate, it's swine like you that make it impossible to find a decent long black in this country/post-geographical franchise opportunity universe - because all the coffee is too BURNT AND ACIDIC rather than deliciously, delicately caramelised, so you PHILISTINES can still taste it through your great swathes of milk and sugar!

fuck this i'm disguising myself as a freight package and posting myself to the Melbourne ilx0r crew...

petra jane (petra jane), Monday, 19 January 2004 03:20 (twenty-two years ago)

petra, as a coffee and dish fascist, bear my children, or at the very least be their governess.

Ed (dali), Monday, 19 January 2004 03:24 (twenty-two years ago)

coffee in a can cannot be good

This stuff is surprisingly good and sells for under a buck. Worth trying if you can find it anywhere.

may pang (maypang), Monday, 19 January 2004 03:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I shan't coffe, iced or otherwise must be made fresh.

Ed (dali), Monday, 19 January 2004 03:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Ed, i will teach them housework fascism through song! [& i r an operating system fascist too, can we have cats?]

petra jane (petra jane), Monday, 19 January 2004 03:53 (twenty-two years ago)

only if they are kind to furniture.

Ed (dali), Monday, 19 January 2004 03:54 (twenty-two years ago)

if they're not i'm sure i can whip up a ditty to teach your children wickerwork...

petra jane (petra jane), Monday, 19 January 2004 04:01 (twenty-two years ago)

See now this is why I love Melbourne. Place is full of Italians, Greeks and Turks = 3 of the best kinds of strongass, dark, give you hair on your chest coffee in the world. Huzzah!

But that crazy Mike Stuchbery boy now claims he loves Starbucks thanks to the influence of his American lady love, so you need to show him back to the way of the light.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 19 January 2004 04:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah Starbucks is nice eh

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Monday, 19 January 2004 09:18 (twenty-two years ago)

$5 for a coffee that contains no coffee? at least the local chip shop puts creaming soda syrup in its overpriced milkshakes...

petra jane (petra jane), Monday, 19 January 2004 09:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I had two cafe suas at the pho place on Broadway at 5pm and I'm still fucking awake. and jittery! and at the office, editing, even though tomorrow (Mon.) is a national holiday. damn you, fancy coffee-based beverage!

M Matos (M Matos), Monday, 19 January 2004 10:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Ed is wrong.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 19 January 2004 12:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Their frappucinos are rampant w/ice tho

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Monday, 19 January 2004 15:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey mark, what am I wrong about?

Ed (dali), Monday, 19 January 2004 16:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I was wondering that too, Ed, but didn't want to start a BarryStrop :) I keep finding myself agreeing with you Ed, what's that all about eh? I have no milk in coffee ever ever though so think the majority of you on this thread are nutloops.

Sarah (starry), Monday, 19 January 2004 16:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I drank a beverage Saturday night that was 4 shots of espresso and chocolate syrup and nothing else. My heartrate is still on GABBA.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 19 January 2004 16:18 (twenty-two years ago)

You have a tendency to decree things, Ed, so when you decree something I disagree with, then you must be wrong. QED.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 19 January 2004 16:22 (twenty-two years ago)

In this case you seem to be a bit of a coffee fascist. I am sipping an almond mocha from Starbucks, which I would imagine is the antithesis of everything you hold dear, and I am, as they say, lovin' it.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 19 January 2004 16:23 (twenty-two years ago)

WORD UP. Their almond shit's fantastic!

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Monday, 19 January 2004 16:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey it could be worse, it could be an instant almond mocha, IN A CAN.

Ed (dali), Monday, 19 January 2004 16:35 (twenty-two years ago)

That Japanese canned coffee kicks ass too

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Monday, 19 January 2004 16:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I had cold coffee in a can once. I think I was in Spain. It comes pre made with MILK AND SUGAR! And it's COLD! Ugh! Those continentals.

Armenian coffee = KILLER COFFEE. I rather like it m'self.

Sarah (starry), Monday, 19 January 2004 16:37 (twenty-two years ago)

You can microwave it, tho. The trick w/these things is to not treat them as COFFEE per se I think

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Monday, 19 January 2004 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Canned coffee scares me shitless. That chemical they put in to heat the whole thing up can't be healthy, can it?

Also, you're not allowed to take them on planes, I have no idea why. Possibly because the the change in pressure would cause a nuclear explosion or something.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 19 January 2004 16:39 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, japanese canned coffee, milky coffee, coffee&chocolate&whatever the hell else flavoured icecream shake beverage - drink them if you like 'em, fine, but DON'T CALL THEM COFFEE. it's like selling grape fanta as champagne, Just. Plain. Wrong.

petra jane (petra jane), Monday, 19 January 2004 20:38 (twenty-two years ago)
