I HAVE NEVER NEEDED TO KNOW ANYTHING MORE THAN I NEED TO KNOW THIS RIGHT NOW.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 19 January 2004 17:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Feed a fever.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 19 January 2004 17:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't remember which way around it's supposed to be, but I do remember reading that scientists had shown it to be nonsense (or at least the starving whatever bit).

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 19 January 2004 17:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Starve both.

Aja (aja), Monday, 19 January 2004 17:40 (twenty-two years ago)

It thought it was a contraction of "If you feed a cold, you'll have to starve a fever" either way I never paid any attention, and that's why I'm always fat and ill.

Matt (Matt), Monday, 19 January 2004 17:40 (twenty-two years ago)

aja is right, you haven't even got the energy to digest food - drink energy drinks or chicken soup, but that's about it.

chris (chris), Monday, 19 January 2004 17:40 (twenty-two years ago)

One of them means you get to eat and feel shit, the other one means you get to starve and feel shit. Be pragmatic - do you have any appetite? In that case, it's feed a fever. If the thought of eating leaves you cold, then it's starve a fever. Simple.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 19 January 2004 17:41 (twenty-two years ago)

These people are wrong THE TIME FOR RIBS IS NIGH.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 19 January 2004 17:41 (twenty-two years ago)

aja is right

Thanks.

I hate being sick. I think it's just harder to eat when you have a fever than a cold.

I don't like to eat anything when I'm sick. If I eat when I'm sick, I feel worse.

Aja (aja), Monday, 19 January 2004 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Eisbär (llamasfur), Monday, 19 January 2004 19:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Matt is right. The expression is originally medieval English 'if you feed a cold then you must starve a fever'.

It's feed a cold & starve a fever. That's it, no contradiction.
