Should I spend 60 bucks on records online? I don't NEED them, but they would be nice to have.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Monday, 19 January 2004 21:15 (twenty-two years ago)

and if you want to hate me for having 60 fucking bucks to waste I don't wanna hear about it.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Monday, 19 January 2004 21:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Clearly this can only be answered by saying what the records are.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 19 January 2004 21:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 19 January 2004 21:21 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, I trust Ned but I need one more nudge from the good people of ILX to make a decision here.

Castle (UK), 1960s/1970s Condition: New Copy
While skinheads here in the states have come to symbolize something quite different than the original movement of disaffected white working class youth in England in the 60s, there's a small sub genre of reggae that will be forever identified with the movement. Trojan collects a dozen and a half classic numbers, starting with ska and rocksteady and moving forward into early reggae for this nice set, including Symarip's "Skinhead Moonstomp", plus the Pioneers "Long Shot Kick De bucket", Dave & Ansell Collins "Double Barrel", the Upsetters "Return Of Django", the Maytals "54-46 Was My Number", the Untouchables "Tighten Up", Clancy Eccles "Fattie Fattie", Rico & The Rudies "Brixton Cat", Dandy "Reggae In Your Jeggae" and the Reggae Boys "Mama Look Deh", plu smany more! (From the Reggae CD page.)

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Monday, 19 January 2004 21:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I think Martin Skidmore would be your good judger of quality here. His eyes are really acting up, though, so I don't know when he'll be able to read this. :-(

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 19 January 2004 21:29 (twenty-two years ago)

hmmm.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Monday, 19 January 2004 21:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I bought a similar skinhead comp for a dollar at some store in Ohio that was, according to the clerk, desperate to get a product with the word "skinhead" on it out of their shop.

tweemu (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 19 January 2004 21:34 (twenty-two years ago)

it's all great rocksteady! but yeah i know

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Monday, 19 January 2004 21:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I bet you'll find them somewhere else cheaper eventually.

Douglas (Douglas), Monday, 19 January 2004 21:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Monday, 19 January 2004 21:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Monday, 19 January 2004 21:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Since when is this a dilemma? Buy records.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 00:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I WILL!!! & MAYBE SOME MORE LATIN SOUL STUFF TOO!!!

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 14:56 (twenty-two years ago)

They look well worth dropping sixty bucks on, Fritz. I like the
PP Arnold one a lot.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 15:06 (twenty-two years ago)

THe PP arnold one definitely. That skinhead generation one looks like a different (slightly) cover of a set of cds that accompanied an ITV series on youth movements. They were selling for about 16 quid over here. They're basically a greatest hits of each genre. (there was a northern soul one too, and a reggae one, can't remember the others)
